"Highly regulated work environment? What do you mean by that ? Like dispatch always breathing down your neck? Phone calls all the time ? I'm curious because I was considering Crete after my one year experience

Don't get the feeling that dispatch is breathing down my neck, I did early on but unless your load is being "tracked" they'll pretty much leave you alone.
They do tell you where to fuel, and usually seems to be the more of a pain to get in and out of the more likely to be a stop.

I've been with them about 9 years & it would be hard to pry me away, you never hear from anyone as long as your doing your job, plenty of miles. You'll here some say that as your pay increases your miles will decrease, that's bull, can prove it with my W-2, every year has gone up with the exception of 1 when the economy tanked. You don't get detention every time your held up but it pays to always send in the form, you'll get something more often than not. As far as cameras, I'm hearing those are only going in the problem trucks. Crete isn't perfect & they piss me off regularly but I also know you won't find a better trucking company to work for if you want to see every corner of the country & earn very good money doing so. Very professional people for the most part.

I have been offered a job when I graduate in 6 weeks, I am leaning toward Shaffer (bit more $) and have been dealing with Samantha (driver/recruiter) Probably be NE Regional, out 6-9 days, blah blah blah.....any idea what I can realistically expect to gross each paycheck? Ballpark is fine. Any reason I should consider one over the other between Crete/Shaffer? How horrible are those 8 weeks? LOL

Cameras of some sort will eventually end up in all crete truck. The first 50 went into trucks of problem drivers. The next 150 went into new trucks that were handed out to current drivers who turned in an old truck that was being sold. There are more cameras coming, and if you stay at crete long enough, you'll have one staring at you while you drive.
Make sure you comb your hair and brush your tooth.

I'm a Shaffer driver... Reefer you'll deal with more crap as in washing out trailers and crazy appointment times sometimes.
However I get a lot a good long runs, in fact most of them are.

Crete you'll have more drop and hooks but a whole lot more short runs.

The difference between Crete and Shaffer is .01 that's nothing to based your decision off of.

If you want more drop and hooks and the easy way out choose Crete but a lot of short runs.

If your focus is the long runs and don't mind the extra BS choose Shaffer.

When I'm out 7 days my miles average 2800.
I have had 3000+ weeks and 2200 mile weeks though those are rare.
I noticed if I push them and run hard I'll get over 3000 miles, sometimes that requires getting places early and doing T-Calls etc etc.

Either way you go this is a solid OTR company, yeah it's not perfect but at least I'm earning decent money here. Better than if I was at most other OTR companies that's for sure.

basically have my choices down to 4 ..... Crete/PTL for Van, SNI for Tanker or TMC for flatbed.... all pretty much have the same to offer, except some have APU's and some don't. Basically I think that may be a deciding factor for me. Not too worried about the cameras. I mean, as long as your doing what you should and don't trigger them to look at the videos with stupid driving, I don't see why they would be staring at you 24/7.

Once you have been out on the road for a while you'll get a better feel for some of these companies, takes a while & a lot of talking to sensible drivers to learn the companies. I started at Transam & while there I was talking to a LOT of drivers from many companies which is how I landed at Crete, probably to stay. Out of the 4 companies you mentioned, I personally would only consider 2 of them, Crete of course & maybe SNI tanker. None are perfect including Crete. About 90% of the companies I consider starter companies, great to get your 1rst year in like Transam was for me but you don't want to stay. Anyway.... I wish you luck in whichever you do choose

I understand, these are the companies that I am looking at for my start up options at the moment.
