One thing that some people don't know about is billing a customer. Sometimes it's not just sending out a statement with the "whys and wherefors" and the amount of money owed.
There are some customers who require proof that there was detention, they require proof that the shipment was delivered. The proof that it was delivered is the signed and dated bill of lading or freight bill. Others require that the bill of lading or freight bill be the original not a copy. Some require a tally of the count. There are customers who will not pay a bill if everything that they require isn't with the bill. All of this paper that some drivers don't consider to be important really is. It is an aid to your company being paid for what you have done.
I am not trying to stir anything up here, but when you have the bill signed here are things that can help your company. When the freight bill or bill of lading is signed, please make sure the date is correct, if the person signing it has an illegible signature, ask then to print or you print their name under the signature. When you sign it, if you do, sign your name and the name of your company. Circle the number of pieces, showing that it's correct. If the address on the BOL says one thing and you take it to another bldg or location even though dispatch knows, it might save a lot of time and trouble if you write on the bill where you delivered it. Little things that don't take a lot of time but might save your company some grief. Helps the company correctly invoice and in case of a claim might help resolve it.
This paperwork is the reason some drivers don't get paid when they should too.
Just my two cents, for what it's worth...

The only situation that might come up is with regards to detention pay. We are paid detention when the customer pays Crete. Sometimes I am paid the next week, and sometimes it takes a month or more. But I so rarely need to put in for detention and it is usually only for 30mins to an hour that it really is of no concern to me.

The driver that posted this is simply disgruntled and flat out lying about his experience to justify why he was fired. As far as being forced to deliver a load when he was out of hours. Another lie. On the few occasions that I have been sent load offers that could not be delivered within my log restraints, one simple message stating that fact was all that was needed to void the load without a single question from dispatch.

Safety has absolute authority in these situations and no dispatcher would ever require a driver to run illegally. No Crete driver runs illegal at any time. Our logs are audited on a regular basis to enforce 100% compliance and our trucks are tracked by qualcom at all times. We can't even fudge our logs by 15mins without getting called on it. As a matter of fact, I was just talking to a driver in our Columbus yard who was charge safety points for driving 15mins past his 14th hour. He logged it legal, but was caught by the logging department for something as little as that.
Sorry but court evidence and NTSB findings are more credible than your defense . How do you explain these fines ?
3/23/2006 NE-2006-49 Compliance Review

382.305(b)(2) Failing to do random drug tests at applicable annual rate 5 $6,600.00
382.305(i)(3) Failing to ensure that drivers are tested in selection period 60 $33,840.00
395.8(e) False reports of records of duty status 30 $12,000.00

I don't know how you can say what Crete was done regarding pay unless you are in charge of payroll .

The original post also mentioned safety being a joke . The thread is titled "Crete not for experienced drivers " which is true . Good experienced drivers would never consider Crete .

No , not at all . After all , isn't the purpose of a forum to allow differing views to be expressed ? Even though disagreements occur and views may not be entirely changed the relevant information shown gives everybody a better understanding of the topics . The only thing I have a problem with is personal attacks and childish displays of temperment .

Does that include making fun of the original posters typing skills and intelligence levels like luvtheroad did? Please enlighten me as to how that relates to the industry.

I don't know how you can say what Crete was done regarding pay unless you are in charge of payroll .
These compliance issues are from the 2006 audit, which was prompted by the accident.

Since that time, it has been Crete's policy to be 100% HOS compliant.

As for payroll issues, as an O/O leased to Crete since Aug. 2006, I've had three minor reimbersment issues that were solved on the next settlement. The folks in the payroll dept. are some of the nices people to work with. It is my OPINION that if a driver is having a problem getting paid for a trip; it is more than likely a paperwork issue on the driver's part.

If by EXPERIENCED DRIVER you mean a driver that likes to run OUTLAW STYLE, those folks won't do well at Crete, due to the now 100% compliance policy. Our logs must match our Qcomm at ALL TIMES. And yes, this does force a driver to shut down in some awkward places. Which in turn, requires a driver to do much planning and thinking ahead, i.e. intelligence.

Since the FMCSA has now made it a policy to use a companies GPS records when doing an audit; companies that use such technology will be forced to be 100% compliant. And since most mid to large size companies, as well as some small ones, use such devices, will this mean only non GPS equipted carriers will get the HOT LOADS?

It is my opinion that within five years if you don't have GPS technologhy, you won't be hauling freight.
