Ok, so for some this might be a lil bit repetitive but I cant help myself. Due to someones "other thread" bashing Malone i gotta put my .02 worth.
If your looking for insight as to wether or not you want to come to Malone or just started and your wondering if you made a mistake, I will do my best to clear up any confusion.
First off if you cant grasp the concept of operating your own buisness, my advise is stay away!!! I have been here since Jan. 2011 and without a doubt it is the best company I have ever pulled for. (I have pulled for J.B Hunt, Covenant, TMC, and Prime)
Now, if you think you can, and in turn actully do good at running your own buisness then you can make a good living @ Malone. And before I go any further if you come across someone who is bashing Malone, ask them how long they have been here. Every single person to date that I have heard bash Malone has only been here 1-3 months. Because within 3 months if you havent figured out how to run here, your never going to and your probably going to blame Malone for not making it.
Trying to get back into the point at hand, the lease side is all that I can give insight on because that is what I am doing. The basics, I have $522/ wk in truck payment, trailer rental, tags, permits, insur. etc. on top of that you have your fuel that comes out, and your maint. money which mine averages around $250 - 300/ wk. Here is the first peice of bad news, that 250 some dollars a week goes to Malone and you NEVER get it back, on the up side you dont pay for maint., you can pull out of the yard and blow the engine and Malone covers it 100%. Tires 100% PM's 100% Back to the bad, PM's only every 40,000 miles and ONLY at a terminal. Also only what Malone deems neccesary will be fixed, so if something can wait, its going to, but at the same time, if it is needed to keep the truck legal, consider it DONE!!! I love this company but without a doubt Maint. here sucks.
As for your loads, you MUST find all of your own freight if you want to be succesful. 95% of the time I find all my freight off of Malone's Load Board. Besides that you have Agents that you call. One way to think of the Agents is Malone's private brokers, some may argue with that description but its the best way I can put it. Then you have actuall brokers if you cant find anything else. Malone takes 25% of you line haul then you get 100% of everything else, so whenever possible have the agents of brokers break out everything possible so to increase your pay.
What you make in my opinion is based on where you live and how long you want to get home. in my case is can be difficult to get loads near my house, usally 180 miles deadhead home and another 180 back out. And I try to get home every weekend or every other weekend. On average I bring home about $1400/ wk. if you live in northern ohio, northern indiana, i would think you could easily bring home $1600++/wk home on the weekends and probably some through the week. Just my opinion, I could be off on that. One last note, NO QUALCOMM, Cell phone dispatch ONLY!!!
On that note I'm shutting up for now and welcome any insight from other Malone Driver that can help anyone thinking of coming here. And for those that are coming to Malone, Welcome and hopefully you have as good of an experiance as I have so far!!!

I would like to say thank you for your input on the lease purchase with CRST. I am currently a company driver. As of now, for this company, I've been with them for 11 and a half years. I heard about the CRST lease purchase program, on my Sirius/XM radio the other day. I've heard a lot of horror stories about truck leasing programs....so I haven't jumped in that boat yet. But with a dream of being my own boss, and having bad credit, it is very tempting. As of now...I bring home $620 to $670 a week. Bringing home a $1,000 a week with this program, sounds very nice, if it's true? Just trying to do my homework, before making a decision. Thanks again!!

Isn't it true that you only have full coverage on the truck for the first two years and the third year is maintenance only?

If you want to pull flatbed and do not want to do the l/p route, I would recommend Maverick. I bring home much more than what you quoted and I have only been here 1.5 years. I presently get .42 a mile plus tarp pay.
I did over 3,000 miles two weeks ago and 2700 this week.

I do believe that Malone has a good L/P program. I have a friend that is with them and loves it, so I am not bashing them at all.

$250-300/wk put into a maintenance fund isn't bad and good for any O/O to consider.
But once you reach $20k, that hemorrhaging should cease....I presume it goes on and on with CRST?

    ...wait....Inquiring minds want to know....

$2088/month for the truck payment? :biggrin_2554: ......this is a purchase program - right?

    Was the truck brand new?
    What is the term?
Is there a balloon payment involved? - What if you cannot pay the balloon, presuming there is one?

.....man I hope to hell this isn't a basic lease... :biggrin_25521:

I did check into the CRST lease purchase this morning. And I'm still not sure, if it's what I want? They put you on a bus to Birmingham, AL, for the orientation. It's a 2 day orientation. After your truck payment, insurance and other fees...it comes out to around $950 a week!?!? Then you gotta think about fuel too. Ok, here's a couple of good things I guess....you're the owner operator. You decide where you want to run. You get your loads off of a loadboard. The second...it's no forced dispatch and you will not be penalized for that (so I was told). The lease is for 3 years...where if you complete the 3 year lease, you can walk away, or pay a balloon payment of $5,000 dollars....then the truck is yours. ####!?!? So again this is a new area for me, and I want to be my own boss, but with my poor financial decisions in the past...my credit sucks. So I guess I will continue to look and do my homework. I meant to ask if you get paid a percentage of the load, or mileage? Hopefully it's percentage?

Yes it is true that they cover the maintenance for the first 2 years...then it comes out of your maintenance account there after. ####...I wish I could get approved at Lone Mountain Truck Leasing, GA. I would rather pay $1,350 a month, than $950 a week?!?!?

Maybe you should go to work as a company driver and save some scratch so you can buy your own truck instead of fleecing one.
