Does Malone offer any training for a driver without flatbed experience? If so is it adequate to confidently get the job done?

They have recently revised there orientations, and the guy that now runs the orientation in Birmingham is very thorough with load securement. If your or him are not comfortable with your load securement abilities he will work with you.

    Travelinman Thanks this.

as the gentleman who started this thread shhhhhh!!! also, as he said if you are not prepared to run a commercial driving business stop now. this is not the place for you. there are other lease companies out there that will hold your hand through the process. you will find all your loads by yourself, you will book those loads thru an agent and your fleet manager. As to vacountryboy, I understand you sometimes wanna stand up and defend your company or feel your helping but at this time of year and economy, you dont want a big ### flood of company/new lease drivers coming over. you may need a load to get home or get somewhere u need to be and guess what its not there cause some new driver took it. I dont call me greedy I'm sure this can be taken the wrong way,but I need mine and I'm sure u need yours. Think about it? Also things starting out and learning the loadboard and the way things work may take a lil while so if u do decide to try Malone have some money saved up because it might take a cpl of weeks to start get goin good.:biggrin_25525:

I totally agree with that usually you'll pay 30% markup and by the time you pay it off it aint worth ####

I was with malone a few years back and did ok.I had my own tractor and covered wagon. They did not bother me when i would disapear for a month or six weeks a couple times a year. My truck was parked and I did not sneak around and haul potatoes out of florida and north carolina and lie to them that I was deadheading home like a few of the guys did. They do not hold your hand or baby you.If you work steady (Which I usually dont ) you can do fine with them. Actually I may go back on with them and my son who is just getting started is thinking about going there also If they will hire him at 21 with his own tractor. He may have to rent one of their trailers

How hard would this be for a driver with only a years experience driving?

First let me say I am no dummy, I was in my last job 16 years starting at the bottom and eventually becoming an owner, so I have a good work ethic and some business sense. I have spent the last 6 months trying to learn everything I can. Going from owner of a business to an employee was a rough change and I don't like it. On the plus side my GF, who I live with when I'm home, makes very good money and pays the bills so anything I make is gravy for us. I just hate how I feel I bust my hump out 4 weeks at a time for the company I'm with now making 27cpm. I'm not afraid of work but #### I'd like to get paid for it.

So if I understand it correctly malone provides load boards you can pull loads from. Do I also understand you can get loads from any load board you want as well? And you'll have to excuse my lack of vocabulary but what is linehaul?

So when you pay your fixed expenses every week that covers everything but fuel? What is their policy on riders? Would I be able to occasionally take my girlfriend or daughter along?

Also, I live in central PA right near altoona on I99. Right now I don't know much about freight lanes. How is this area for backhaul loads home?

I wouldn't be doing anything until summer just researching early.

Another definition of linehaul is the "rate" calculated to move a load from A to B before any accessorial charges such as tarping or demurrage are added to the bill. I think that's the reference he is looking for when discussing leasing a truck to the deck div of CRST.
