Air Freight no longer has the authority to issue loads, that all goes through the planning department. Yes when you are on an AF load you speak directly with AF, everyone does, no you were not "special".

If you have a good FM, and you show a willingness to work there's no shortage of miles at this company, however if you're lazy, deliver late, constantly argue and nitpick, you will find yourself as one of those people that's always stranded at a terminal telling everyone how terrible this company has treated you.

As far as training goes, they put you through a 2 week course to get you your permit and license, yes its a crash course and yes 3/4 of your fellow students will not make it through, either due to their history, lack of aptitude or drug habbits. The course is not designed to teach you how to drive a truck, it is designed to teach you how to drive "enough" to get your license.
After you pass the class, during orientation you'll get a road test, during which time they run you around a few blocks, and only really check to make sure you don't hit curbs, and can follow directions.

During that road test they do not expect you to be perfect, they expect you to miss gears, grind gears, be nervous and a complete newbie in general. To answer your questions reguarding pros and cons, they don't pay much, but they will always pay you what was agreed to, lots of miles, decent equipment, they allow power inverters, if you do screw up they are forgiving, and they run 65 when a lot of companies now are running 62. They also never scoff at getting DOT ticketable repairs done, if you should need it they will advance you money for things you may need without many questions, however advances aren't usually a good idea.

As far as cons go, they should... provide more training, and sticking two newbies in a truck together is a bad move but they do it anyway , miles greatly depend on keeping your FM happy as they do at most companies, and hometime can be a bit of a pain to figure out between 2 drivers, and the big one, the required co-driver... Some people are ok with it, but others not so much. The bottom line is that there are much worse choices one could make for a training company.

    Everett Thanks this.

Was this directed at me? Never claimed I was special. Of course everyone who runs an AF loads deals directly with them. That's what I said.
