Good luck. Have fun. There are lots of good places to eat around there if you can afford it. If not Aldi's is around the corner.

Im sorry you've had bad luck driving a truck. You have 2 degrees. Why did you even decide on driving truck for a living? Did not you ever hear the stories or at least research the industry a little? And who charges anyone to jump on board and learn the ropes with trainers? Never heard of it. My dad and granddad drove trucks their whole lives. The reason you now need further training and licensing is the federal governments idea. Before when my grandfather was trucking there was no border put up down south yet. Bandits would rob trucks just like they did trains. Especially in Texas and New Mexico. He was robbed once at gunpoint and my Dad has been robbed 3 times also at gunpoint....by bandidos (mexican bandits) this was back in the early 60s and 80s. You my engineering friend have a thing or two to learn about a thing or two. I mean nothing negative by this btw.

Who are you with? Always good to know who is willing to hire without demanding some sort of up-front, non-refundable fee...

I'm about to settle for CR England, mostly for this reason, and because I've been out of the seat for a few years (so I don't really get my pick-and-choose). They are nevertheless demanding that I pay a $50 "Administration fee", plus $35 for the DoT physical and drug test (which also must be performed by the company, and not by a third-party medical clinic of the paying driver's choice). I had the impression that the company was responsible for it's own "Administration" (whatever exactly that consists of), and that any employer-required medical exams should be paid for by the employer who requires them - especially if they choose the medical provider - but then, this is truck driving, and somehow our industry is special, this way. Of course, this is also why I left for several years... It feels like a gravity well (or perhaps a meat grinder), drawing me back in.

At least CR England doesn't require me to pay them for the "refresher" course that they require and provide. The pay stinks, and I'm dubious about their mileage promises, but that's par for the course when you don't get to pick and choose between employers.

So if you've got a better employer, I'd certainly be interested to hear about them... :biggrin_255:

I roll with the big boys on campus.. CRST (Cedar rapids steel transport) The tallest miles I've ever ran with any trucking company. Tactical yet life fulfilling in their own special way. My wife will literally KILL me if I ever quit. Lord knows im happy here! And my family has never been better off. I thank christ everyday for the opportunities I've been given here at CRST.

Heck yeah preach the gospel brother. CRST is a decent company if your not afraid to work, know how to respect people, and don't expect someting for nothing like our engineer turned truck driver friend over here.

Im just curious. Im thinking about going with either USExpress, Crst, or CR England and im wondering why you have to do a DOT physial....the drug test I get. I have a medical card which expires in Feb. of 2014. Is this physical in lieu of a Medical Card if you already have one? BTw professional trucker how long have you been with Crst? Are you OTR, Regional??

CRST will accept your current physical however most companies won't for the simple fact they want one thru their doctors. Most companies don't charge for the physical or drug test but crst charges 50 for each or 100 total. Th physical itssef is a requirement by the fmcsa(federal government) and to be in compliance with the law every drver must take one at maximum every 2 years.
