Best thing that I recommend if want become o/o, do not L/P, I bought my truck from arrow, I have a tax lien on my credit, I went to freightliner, truck nation, (Texas dealers), and all of them gave me the same answer, the only way that they can "HELP ME", was 50% down payment of the truck value, I thought I was done, my older truck was a fl century, so I had no choice to repair the motor and keep going, no story short, my friend told me about arrow, I I was like hmm, never hear about them, I wasnt sure, but I did, believe they will work hard to get you approved , i they asked me for $7k for down payment, my truck is a fl Columbia, at that time truck had 650k, cat c-15, 500hp, 13sp, monthly payment was $1,100, I did my last payment may, 2013, truck was covered under warranty(1st month only, free), they offer me to buy an extended warranty which I refused, the first week clutch run out, and front joins broke, I call them right away, they arranged a place where to bring the truck, they did, no questions asked, nothing, no money out pocket, anyway, my point is people gets fooled because other drivers, were having hard times now, specially with this CSA crap, plus bad companies, I became o/o in 95, this is my 4th truck, very happy,

I for one appreciate your story but, there are many reason's why someone does a L/P and they can be successful, if they educate themselves and have a drive to NOT fail. No, it is not the best way to become an O/O

Does make any difference? I mean, loads pay better by having a twice card, why's the reason you need to have it, do they go to ports, military bases, I'm a bedbugger, j often go to. Military bases and never asked for, just curious, tanks

Ports are what the TWIC is for... When I drove for TMC, they gave you points for having a TWIC and that brought you pay up. That will not be done as an O/O, it just gives you more of an opportunity for more freight but, you could survive without I sure. Heck, when I had mine, still have it, in 2011 I went to one port and they didn't even ask for it. As of last year or this year, the system was not even being used and the people that have the TWIC can get it updated cheaper because there aren't any readers at the ports. But, that will change very soon. Eventually you won't be able to get into the port without one and you may not than either, if you truck is not up to their standards...

Just finished school, got my CDL and have all of the endorsements and looking to start team driving. Just wondering if a new driver can make decent money as a company driver or if in order to make a good paycheck you have to be a lease or o/o. Also do they push the leases on new drivers? Just looking for some good information, not delusions of getting rich or anything, just want to make more than $200 or $300 a week.....

Do you have a partner that you know, friend or family? I would, and so will many more, suggest that you drive as a company driver for at the very least, a year. This way you get to know the life of trucking. Starting out as a team driver with a stranger, will make it hard. You should start out in the flatbed industry, you will make more than 200 or 300 your first year, right out the gate. In fact, you will make more than that, no matter where you go, on average anyway. Well, I shouldn't say anywhere but, for the most part. Let me ask you, are you doing this just for money? Did someone tell you that you would be rich driving a truck? What is your story?

I don't have a friend or anyone in the family that I can team with, kind of doing this on my own with my wife and daughter at home. Planning on driving company, not really interested in leasing since I have heard lots of failure stories. I have heard of some drivers for the mega carriers that wind up making really pitiful checks starting out, not sure if its because they have training to repay or what their story is but I just don't want to get stuck in that same boat. As for me, I have no delusions of getting rich or making big checks as a truck driver. Tired of low paying jobs, tired of jobs that want degrees that don't pay enough to repay the school loans, and tired of unstable work. I have no problem with the way that the trucking lifestyle works, stay out for several weeks and only home for short periods of time, not preferred but can live with it if I am making enough money to pay the bills at home and keep my family fed. Interested in teaming because it seems that teams get more freight quickly because of their ability to move freight more quickly. Also a lot of companies don't supply inverters, APU's and frown upon idling, with team the truck is almost always running so you have A/C in the summer, heat in the winter and electrical power from the engine running not having to worry about draining the batteries.
