If I've seen it posted online once, I have seen it posted a bazillion times online about every single trucking company in the United States, "CRST Malone(or whoever!) SUCKS!"
Let me just say this, EVERY COMPANY IS GONNA SUCK TO SOMEBODY, and if you are making decisions based on what someone that you don't even know is posting online about a company that you have never worked for before, then please do not apply for a job driving a truck because you are not mentally mature enough to make decisions based on your own ability!
I admit that before leasing my truck on to CRST Malone I too did some online research and read all 1,634,429 negative thumb sucking comments that are posted here and everywhere else on the Internet. Guess what! I leased on with them anyway! Why?? Because there is always gonna be someone out there who just can't do anything but complain and blame somebody else for their lack of ability, and I know that as business owner I alone have the final say in my business, not some fleet manager or broker agent sitting behind a desk.
Momma used to say that if you can't handle the heat then stay out of the kitchen! I concur.
If you make the decision to be in business for yourself, then act like a business owner. Quit whining that you can't make money at CRST Malone. If you're not making money with them it is your own fault, not theirs. You are a business owner. What, it ain't what you thought it'd be? Is it too hard for you? Its not always easy to make money on the road, but if you'll change your thinking just a little bit and start being more solution oriented, I bet things will turn around for you and you won't have to feel like you need to destroy the hopes and dreams of other potential Independant Contractors by going online and telling the world that you have failed where many others have succeeded! And yes, that is exactly how it looks when you post negative stuff online about a company, YOU end up looking like the jerk! Not them!!
I said all of that to say this, if you want to lease your truck to a company that will stand behind you, and you know how to run your truck profitably, then CRST Malone is for you. If you want a great lease purchase plan and a company that will stand behind you and help you learn the ropes of running that truck and are able to FOLLOW instructions, then CRST Malone is for you. If you like to whine more that you like to breath and you don't have enough sense to listen to anyone else, stay home, there are enough idgits like you out here and we don't need another one.
last but not least there is a blog online called CRST Malone Diary. It is a step by step guide of a driver leased to CRST Malone. Do a google search for the blog and follow his success or failure and see if CRST Malone is right for you.
    Thanks for reading!!

They sent me a postcard in the mail. $0 down, no credit check and payments on a used tractor from $250-$275/week. I don't know any further details but that payment alone is 1/3-1/2 lower than the weekly payments of other companies that do the lease thing. Most are $500+ from what I've seen.

I don't know or claim to know what anyone else is doing with Malone, but so far this year I'm averaging around $2 per mile, total miles, thats MT and loaded. Last summer I averaged $2.25 so things are down a bit, but still very profitable. you get 100% of the fsc which this week is around 26.5% of the gross line haul.(when fuel was up I was getting 31%) part of why my avg per mile is down, fuel is cheaper right now). or in some cases .56 per mile depending on the lane your in. and I avg 2000 total miles a week. That being said, My income after all expenses is still the same. and I have no truck payment. Ran smart and hard as a company driver and Paid cash for my truck. If you run your truck as a business and try to make smart decisions, you can make good money with malone. The key is to make good relations with agents and brokers, they usually have the good stuff that never sees the loadboard. and find a lane that you can run consistantly. If you can be patient and do these things you can make alot of money with these guys and not run yourself into the ground trying to do so.

I'm considering getting on with CRST Mal, but leasing a truck with them...brand new to the business side of it, just tell me, will I be able to keep food on the table?

Do they really and truly have a decent program to help you more than screw you? That's all I need to know.

Oh! An what kind of home time are you getting?? I live in Chattanooga.

    Thanks

    Hey Jas,
I know guys that are leasing their trucks and are making a good living. I also know guys that are struggling. I think if you are new to trucking you might struggle a bit because you are still learning alot about trucking (the non business part) but if you have previous business experience that might be different. Its all up to you. You know what your capable of. Just know you cannot run your own truck like a company driver. and you can't run it like a hardhead just because you own your own truck either. You have to find a happy medium and make smart decisions. but the lease seems to be better than most. Me personally, I had a bad experience with leasing a truck when I first started (one of those bad leases designed for failure)and decided that owning my truck out right was the only way for me. I hope my ramblings helped out. Good luck in whatever you decide.

As far as home time. You shouldn't have a problem in Chatanooga. Your pretty much in the middle of a couple nice lanes that run georga, alabama, indiana and illinois. so home time shouldn't be an issue.

    Jas,
just like Heavy said, some make it and some don't. If you treat it like a business and not like a job, you'll make it. That means setting some financial goals and doing WHATEVER it takes to meet them inside the legal bounds. If you set a goal to make $4500 a week, don't go home until you do. If you missed your monthly goal last month, stay out an extra weekend this month to make it up.
Furthermore, don't wait for someone to make your load decisions for you. Get creative and find your own. CRST Malone will even let you find your own customers if you want to. That's where the real money is at.
Just remember, it's a business and you're the boss. Nobody but you has your best interest at heart. NOBODY!

I started with them Feb 20th of this year and have been well pleased with them, but I am an O/O with them. I wanted to do this instead of having a l/p, nothing against those that do it. I have chatted with alot of both sides owner and lease and the same keeps coming up.... some love it and some hate it, those that love it seem to like getting their own loads and planning ahead, and those that hate it have two things in common... they don't like looking for loads and don't preplan where they are going.

At CRST you will either make it or break it yourself.. if you are not good at making decisions and learning from other people then CRST is not for you, but if you do like doing this and want to make a decent living then you can make it.

I have spoke with lp people who havent had a check for 2 weeks, when i get to talking to them, they don't want to look for loads want to do only where they want to go and forget about setting their week up ahead of time.

It is a big step and not one for the faint hearted.... The first couple of weeks, man I thought to myself "What did I do, this is the worst mistake I have ever made, but stuck it out and now..... It is not perfect, but everything they told me in the pamplets they done!

Have I always got the loads I wanted, no, Has the pay been great always... heck no, But Remember this: If everything was the way we wanted it, we couldn't get a job at CRST cause they would be a waiting line to get them.
