Gravdigr, here is the latest craigslist post for CRST Malone out of ND. http://nd.craigslist.org/trp/3114240163.html
It mentions $500 sign on bonus, $0.59 per mile to get to orientation (I think this is only for O/O who bring their own trucks), and $500 retention bonus after 90 days. Just want to make sure that CRST is giving you the total package to make sure you get your coin.

I know you are still going through orientation, but I am interested to hear your feedback once they let you view the load board firsthand and see with your own eyes the $2.07 loads that their advertisement is claiming. I am also interested to see your 1st week's CRST fleet's fuel discount at the Petro/TA/Loves/Pilots once you get rollin'. The add claims that the fleet average is $0.40 per gallon. Interested to see what your personal experience will be once you start fueling your truck.

The $1,000 is for O/O's bringing their own truck, the L/P guys get the whopping $150. ( better than nuthin', I guess). That's the way it was explained to me. Go get em, gravdigr, good luck. When you get up and rollin', post your truck number, maybe you can get a few referal bucks.

Yeah like dan said what you saw was for O/Os with their own trucks. Honestly for me the $150 was a bonus as I wasn't expecting anything. It amazes me how people come into something like this with nothing. The other L/P guy didn't even bring money for food and for other reasons has no business entering a L/P but This isn't about him so I won't get into that.

It's funny the videos we watched were so old they were advertising a whopping $.035 fuel discount...yes that's 3 and a half cents per gallon. The guy said it's much better than that now. I'll be finding out exactly what it will be, more or less since it depends where you fuel, tomorrow. We also get introduced to the load boards tomorrow so I can let you know about those. I have a feeling the better loads are with the crst agents but that is just a guess.

If the crst fuel discounts are too disappointing I have heard very good things about the fuel card offered through NASTC and may look into going that route for fuel if it saves me money.

Once I get a final breakdown of what my costs will be from my settlements I will post up showing what I am paying and give my estimated cost per mile based on a 2k mile week as well as how I am doing so you can get a handle on how to make money in this program. I have learned everything I can on running a truck profitably and if it works I will post up here how I did it. Coming into something like this unprepared is just setting yourself up for failure so I'll try to go over as much as I can.

    Bedtime, big day tomorrow.

Well today we got our agent list and saw a demo of the load board. Unfortunately I won't have access to the board for a day or two once the system processes my owner id so I can't really examine it yet. Also the head of safety was up from Birmingham for contractor appreciation day and he gave us the CSA speech. When I heard about the speech I'm thinking oh boy sleep time. I have sat through the csa speech before and it's generally pretty boring. But I was wrong about this time. He actually started back before deregulation explaining how the industry worked then vs now, and the how and why csa came about. He didn't just tell us what not to do but why.

Also got my Alabama coil cert today and took my securement test which consisted of securing a dummy 40k coil......in 105 degree weather......inside a garage which bumped it up to about 115. I was dripping sweat by the time I was done but it was perfect and I got the go ahead.

Then I got assigned my truck, '09 columbia, which had me worried. I saw that truck get dropped off yesterday by a failed driver. I talked to him and he said there is something wrong with the truck. On the test drive it definitely has a problem, feels like an injector. So rather than start me off with a truck in the shop they gave me the option to take a rental car, they pay everything, and drive to Oklahoma city and pick up a '10 columbia. So that's what I'll be doing tomorrow. Then they'll send me wherever I have to go to get my trailer and securement equipment.

    danmissouri and Travelinman Thank this.

Thanks for the update and I hope that '10 Columbia works out really good for you. Glad you did not have to get stuck with that '09 lemon. Do they still give you a truck payment grace period of 3 weeks so you can generate some cash flow before you have to start making payments? Have a safe trip to OKC

Yes, all your deductions don't kick in until the 4th week. Some start the first mile like the maintenance account and bobtail ins, but most of the rest doesn't start until the after the 2nd week. Trailer payments start the first week though I think.

    What does all that pay?

If you bought a car from a local dealer and the one you wanted was 700 miles away would you go and get it? Quit being so desperate and make them bring the truck to you.

When you buy new car from a dealer that is not on the lot who do you think pays to transport it to the lot? You do, the charge is added to the invoice...actually any new car you buy there is a transportation charge added. They are paying me to pick up the truck .

Every GM/Ford/Chrysler dealer pays a set amount per car regardless as to where the dealer is. This prevent customers from shopping closer to the factory to get a better deal.

Of course you're getting paid....you're getting to fleece a truck sooner.
