I'd go pick the thing up ,too, just to expedited things. You're probably about ready to get out of there anyway. Did the "failed" driver give you any idea why he's givin' it up? I was hoping they weren't into 2010s yet, didn't want those particulate filters. You might get lucky with some pretty low miles, tho. Good luck on your vacation to OKC. Hope they're paying something for you running all over the place... oh by the way, the trailers in Seattle. (kiddin')

Gravdigr please let us know how things are going I am going to orientation for Landstar on Monday and Tuesday. I know it is not flats but I would like to know how some of the fuel saving tactics work for you. I am purchasing an 05 Int'l 9400 and hope I did the right thing quitting a job that I had been at for 7.5 years but it was getting more and more demanding on cut times and sitting without pay at other terminal. Anyway I hope you do great at your new adventure and pm me with some of the things that you can teach me about things.

In so many words the driver was a moron, grossing $5k in a month you are doing something very wrong.

Anyway as luck would have it another truck showed up, the driver was going back to the van division. So I got handed a pretty decent truck, '10 columbia with 440k miles and no real issues other than an opti idle that doesn't work right. And to boot I got his trailer already loaded with securement equipment. And this guy was meticulous, everything in it's place organized. I got a chain rack on the bulkhead, dunnage racks in front of the tires and a tarp box. I would've liked another tarp box on the other side but hey I can't complain. Plus I got all his practically new securement equipment at the used price. Now I'm sitting at the Iowa 80 truck stop in Walcott waiting for my ID to go through the computer so I can get on the loadboards.

Also all their LP trucks have DPF filters on them. DPF started in '07 and they aren't leasing trucks that old.

Congratulations Gravdigr on getting your truck. Sounds like you have a pretty good truck with good equipment. Hopefully the computer will quickly accept your ID so you can go get a good paying load this afternoon for Monday delivery. Best of luck and keep us updated on your progress.

Thanks gravdigr for all of the great info. I am seriously thinking about joining the team. Please keep us updated on your journey. I have heard some good and some bad about the company as with all other companies out there. I drove for 12 years hauling fuel and now I am a Terminal Manager for a trucking company which brings on a whole new stress level. Just cant decide if I want to lease or just buy my own truck. Be safe out there and keep the information coming.

Is it Gold? They were supposedly buying tractors from some other carriers, recruiter told me they had red, white and blue Centurys. Ran into a guy that recently got a white one, full lower fairings and all aluminum wheels, actually looked OK. The gold is actually starting to grow on me alittle. Sounds like you did alright on trailer and "barely" used equipment. Is that a 15 liter Detroit? Just wondering how those run. Good luck to ya.

It is a DD15. Comparison will be tough as I know my old company turned the power down on their trucks. But to give you an idea in the '12 pro star I used to drive if I tried to pull out bobtail in 4th it would shudder and bog, in this truck I can pull out bobtail in 5th with no problems. I'll know more when I got some weight. Speaking of which I found my first load off the loadboard this morning. The pay on it isn't very good as I need to deadhead 200mi to pick it up but it runs right past my house and delivers monday morning so I can get home tomorrow and leave monday morning to deliver.

I'm pretty impressed with the fuel discounts. I'm fueling up here in walcott and the discount is $.34/gal so I'm paying $3.47/gal.

My truck is a gold one, steel wheels.

That fuel discount sounds pretty good. I have some questions regarding your strategy. How many days a week are you planning to work? Do you have a weekly net income target in mind? Do you have an idea of the lowest rate per mile you would be willing to accept not counting this first load?

The T/A-Petro cost + fuel discount is the best you can get.

    Beats Pilot or Love's.

I would never do a L/P though. BAd deal being under their thumb with crappy truck.

    ralph Thanks this.
