At the end of my meeting this morning with CRST Int'l CEO David Rusch and Expedited Division President Michael Rusch, I confirmed their approval for me to share the broad strokes overview of our discussion. In brief, they recognize the toxicity in the driver culture and seem serious in their commitment to change that. It took some straight talk from a driver who was able to get beyond the specific details of their own struggles and communicate the underlying root causes of why these struggles persist in spite of efforts by management to improve situations. I may not be around CRST long enough to see the fruit of this effort but if the effort is both sincere and successful then I think we all will see the perception of CRST changing in the coming months and years. Following my meeting I do believe these leaders are sincere and committed so the challenge for them will be getting the rest of the ship turning in the same direction.

    Jake,

You could invite them to read here as well. If they are serious about changing things, this site is a good resource of information on what needs "fixed"!

I did and I'm sure they know that. The one problem I see is any feedback here would be pretty unfiltered so may be more noise than effective, constructive actionable feedback. The initiative is only a few weeks out of the gate and right now they are working through internal driver feedback via driver survey. It was only the first step and this kind of change is slow so let them work through the internal problems first and the external perceptions should become easier as a result.

Hate to tell you but their primary interest is the bottom line, they have a method to run the company and most likely they will be very slow to make any changes because of your input, ,good you had a chance to speak with them but I doubt if they change,,, CRST Werner,Swift, Schneider and hundreds of other big carriers know that when a driver quits or gets run over and killed in the parking lot there are 100 more waiting to try the great adventure and play "Smoky and the Bandit"

You're not telling me anything I don't already know... I do suspect though that they weren't as savvy to that public perception and I respectfully didn't pull any punches in that regard. Like I said, their degree of commitment to affecting substantive change will determine how fast and how fully this perception changes, internally first then externally.

It was more than two hours long so a transcript is out of the question. I am going to provide my written recommendations to Mike Gannon first before I share them publicly. Rest assured I will do so though as soon as possible. I am speaking from my own perspective so understand this is not their words in my mouth. I do want to give them opportunity to read it first before its in public forum... that's only professional courtesy.

Following my meeting this morning with CRST's Driver Retention Director I'll begin posting my report as it was presented to senior management.
