How much money should I bring when I get sent to Jacksonville for school? Please answer if you've been through this experience.
-
CRST = Completely Recycled Schneider Truck. My condolences.
joseph1135 Thanks this. -
Enough for food and supplies. I say around $200 should cover you till your first paycheck.
TruckingPeter Thanks this. -
Have you been to CRST?
-
No I am with knight transportation. However you should always have some money with you for training. $200 is a decent amount to have but in the end it comes down to how much you plan to spend on food. I just wouldn't bring any less than $10 per day for food.

Man do your thing I have a buddy who drive for them and hes a oo and doing good. You listen to people on truck web sites youll never work
MISPLACED TEXAN, Drewski and Up^on^two Thank this. -
Everything you think they are supplying to you will be taken out of your pay checks, school, room and board. Medical Check up. Per Diem is forced and they charge you 2 cpm for using something you have on choice in. They will enforce the contract some make sure you understand it. Also make sure you have access to downloading your logbook apges you need them fpr taxes.
Take 200 to 300 with you. Once your on the trainers truck you can draw advances, but not while in school.
My son lft there on Nov 15th a year exactly, now works for a local cement company hauling powder, pay increase to say the least but you have to do 6 months somewhere, but CRST is a year.....
Good Luck.. -
CRST is 8 months. I hightailed it out there so fast... And, got a regional job. My intent was to get a local gig, but I knew most companies wanted at least 2 years experience. I saw an ad on CL, while working for Metropolitan, and took a chance. And, they took one with me. Been with local gig for a bit over a year. Great pay, Union, home every night, weekends off... ALL that I wanted.
BTW, CRST sent me a letter, one year after I left, saying if I didn't pay $58 (?) for SS tax, I wouldn't get my diploma. BUT, I could come back and call it even. They can stuff it.
Bring $400. Trust me. Good luck. About 130 people come through that door the first day. AT Orientation, you're lucky if 20 are left. And, some don't even make it through Orientation. -
I have been doing some research for trucking schools by talking to drivers I meet at different places. I have spoken with a couple CRST drivers and they said that things are getting better. I guess the only way to know is to apply there and see for myself. I was also thinking of going to school on my own and then going to CRST because apparently they now have tuition reimbursement and starting pay is I believe 0.33 per mile. If any of you have heard differently please let me know.
