wow I think you learned everything in ONE MONTH lmfao Landstar is a JOKE. Talk about being charged !!! In orientation in 2002, wait you were not driving back then... In 2002 Landstar told us in Orientation give it 6 months before you start to make money !!!!! Sorry my bill collectors wont wait 6 months. Landstar charges I mean OVER charges you for almost everything. They say no trailer rental fee ?? Yet they pay you more if you have your own trailer ?? I would say the lesser amount is a FEE.... Same situation with Landstar as with Most all Companies.... there are favorites. Wait thats in life not only trucking.. The ones who earn the most do not sit back and wait for a dispatcher to do it for you. Every where freight is cheap, This President is making sure of that. I have 17 years of experience with 9 of those as an O/O and I #### sure havnt learned everything in trucking, I know alot but never stop learning.
Chiricahua, How can you honestly say that you know what your talking about by working only 1 month at a company. One month is barely enough to get your truck rolling, hardly enough time to learn the system, hardly enough time to find out which brokers/agents to deal with. No need to speak badly of any other driver on this board, you dont know them do you ? They might just be a bit smarter of a contractor then you are. They may have more then 3 years of experience. 3 years isnt very much in a industry like trucking.....
I hope you do well in this industry, Lord knows were all getting a bad deal out here.
CRST Malone (Flatbed Division) SUCKS!

Yes Landstar has no freight right now. But cmon, Malone has one of the worst safety ratings and driver log out of service failures in the industry. Why because of the type of Company it is and Drivers that they attract that stay long term.
I learn the system at CRST Malone in one month because its so simple. Cheap freight lazy Agents and the fact that they wouldnt allow me to get my own freight from load boards. (Which paid more than the freight that Malone had) is why I didnt have to learn anything else about the system?
Then they lost their largest (Steel) account because of its drivers record. Look at the earnings they reported for 2009. The company at best is the worst in the industry. Make your money elsewhere.
And as for driving for four years mathematician
I drove as an independent contractor day one out of driving school. Tried two companies after that as a company driver for one as an O/O (Malone) to get my one year of experience needed to get on with Landstar. Paid off truck in first year and trailer in the following six months. Now I have my day cab and dump bucket for local work.
So yeah I learned a thing or two along the way. Most of it from talking to other drivers I meet on the road. You get a better sense for the truth when you see the driver in person and his truck and trailer. You can make your own decisions from the info that you gather.
And my decision is to steer drivers who want to make a living away from CRST Malone.SheepDog Thanks this. -
Day one as a O/O good for you.... You still have alot to learn -
I have been with CRST MALONE for 3 years. I make great money! I find my own loads. Its not that hard to do. So I dont know why you didnt make it. Lazy or sorry maybe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
golightly Thanks this. -
Hubby drives for CRST Malone (Flatbed). Only been with them less then a month. First check was awsome. Then we took a load to PA, will never do that again. Freightliner didn't like the mountains, lol. After 4 days of being in Fyda Freightliner, the second check kindof hurt but you cant expect to get all good checks.
I (wife) pretty much dispatch for him. He has a fleet manager but I am the one that mainly finds the loads for him to take.
We have came to the conclusion that it would be very hard for someone with this company to make it without a laptop or someone at home to find loads for them. If you sit and wait on your fleet manager to find a load for you, lol you might be sitting for a while.
So far, we have had our ups and downs but that is mainly bc they moved our fleet manager to nights till they could get someone hired and pushed us off on to someone else. We just dont click with this FM like we did our first one. We are soo ready for ours to get back on days.
My advice to anyone looking to do the lease purchase with this company; run that truck hard the first year. If anything is gonna break or mess up, it is covered the first year. Buy a laptop with internet so you can find your own loads. Oh and it is not forced dispatch but be willing to take a crappy load to a better paying area. Keep in contact with approved brokers, we already have some calling us with available loads.tammyj67 Thanks this. -
I just don't get it. My brother worked for Malone for 4 years with his own truck. It finally died and he took a year off to work with me locally. Now, he's back out with Malone as a lease purchase operator and loving it. He knows the system and uses it to his advantage.
I have looked at his settlement statements and listened to his advice, and as soon as my contract with the county comes up in june, i'm going with Malone as well. I just dunno if I'm going to go lease purchase, or buy a beater and run it a couple of years till i can get a new one.
All jokes aside..... My brother has never lied to me, and his statements seem to hold true to his word as well. I simply think that the driver that didn't make it had some personal problems with Malone, rather than Malone having it out for him. success as an owner operator meerely depends on your "drive" (pun intended) You cannot be lazy,or have a negative attitude going in to this type of thing. A proactive approach would be to live out there like you're life depended upon it (literally). Finding any way for your business to survive rather than depending on your dispatch team to feed you. -
I've never heard of anyone trying to get back on with Malone after they tried them. It's laughable. -

I mean just look at the average Malone truck on the road. And the lease trucks also. If that doesn't speak volumes then I wish you all the best.
