Positive attitude, good thing to have.

Thanks for a positive comment about CRST. I haave worked for them for 2 years and I know there are others that have worked for them for double digits. Yeah, there are complaints, but, you can go to work and be positive, and be happy, or go complaining, and be miserable. You are going to work with the right attitude. Make the decision for yourself of what you think of the company. Most compairable companies are the same is some way or another.
If you can't find what you are looking for here, by all means, go find it. It doesn't make the comapny bad. 3500 trucks, 5000 drivers, and a successful company that is surviving the storm of economy without notice. Sounds like they are doing something right..... Good luck to you!!!

Theyre not goin to give me the best loads right off cuz that just wouldnt make sense.. And yes u can get direct deposit OR use a comdata card.. The benefits here are pretty good and they GIVE your beneficiary 20,000 if u die..lol..Im waiting for my trainer to go over the road with..But I have met alot of smart ppl here..I went thru the school too and I think the trainers are awesome..I learned a lot..and CRST's equipment? alot of their trucks are BRAND NEW freightliner columbias..so just check into it before u start jabbing away..anyways, im gonna see how it goes..

Now you will ask, who pays for it??? CRST. You should not be so lazy, as to think you need it. The western fleet of CRST has them in their trucks for a reason. Iss it that hard to enter into a scale house, or do you have something to hide???? Most entry training companies I believe do not have them either. You can get them with your own money...........
YOU MUST BE A GREEN HORN! E-Z Pass is a turnpike (Toll Road) Transponder. It pays the toll while you roll on by,NOT stopped in a huge line waiting to pay with YOUR CASH,then wait to be repayed. Most companies use these transponders.
Best of luck with CRST.

Changed Policies

Remember this!! We as trainers, much like EVERY driver that drivers, started out where the new student is at. WE HAVE ALL BEEN THERE!!! Being a trainer is like a promotion. #1 Yes, it is more per mile. BUT in the last year the pay structure has been changed, NOT to benefit the trainer, either. BUT, we still do it. #2 I do it to offer what I learn, and have learned from other drivers, and the GREAT trainer that I had when I did the 28 days, for $50/day. It is like any job, a promotion if you want to call it. You can and will have your chance if you want it. If you want those incentives, work torwards becoming a trainer. You have the choice to be a trainer, or work for whatever company you have or do work for. Your choice. As a trainer, I learn new things everyday, sometimes from my trainee. I am not afraid to admit "I didn't know that", to anyone. BUT, in the 2 years I have been driving, I know that I have learned allot. I keep in contact with ALL the students I have trained, no wrecks, no tickets, they are getting good miles, oh, and brand new 2009 FL trucks. Must be doing something right. Happy Holidays!!

I'm Glad you like being a Trainer, But 1 thing you have to remember about makeing that $1250 a week pay check, is as a Trainer at CRST Van Exped, you Get all the Miles that the Truck Runs Plus Training Incentives. while the student got 1/2 which i think now they just made it salry of 350 a week...

1 of the reasons i dont reccomend CRST for new Students is because the Bulk of their Trainers have had between (when i was there) 6mths and 2 years experience..

I've been Driving for almost 3 years and i remember when CRST Pressured me into being a Trainer after my contract was up only after 6 months of driving.. in my opinion that is the blind leading the blind.. i personaly feel training should be left up to those with 8 years or more experience with Great Incentives and Company longeveity bonuses... when i worked there we had 6 deaths in 1 week and they were all Students and Trainers...

Another Reason is the policy at CRST Makes it a Bad Training Experience for the Students.. For Example when i was there the Trainer was suppost to sit in the Front Seat and help out for the 1st 5 days of Training then after that week was over you went to just Running as teams.. and that in my opinion is Cheap Labor Exploitation they only paid us 18cpm for 1/2 the miles and now they only pay 350 a week to the student...

I personaly Perfer the Policy of Training that USX has, being that the Student is the only 1 allowed to drive and must log 170 hours behind the wheel, and the Trainer IS Not allowed to Drive what So Ever and the logs are Scrutnized by the logging and training dept to ensure that every hour
What i Dislike about it is that they still Obtain their trainers from 6mths experience and up.. that is wrong in my book like i said above training should be left to the more experienced driver's

EZ Pass

Oh, my misunderstanding. Then they were right, CRST does not use EZ Pass. I was thinking that they were talking about "PrePass", for scale houses. BUT, through the proper steps, a CRST driver can pay cash, without ever having to see it deducted from his check. They know how to do it as it is taught while training and in orientation. BIG DEAL!!!! Just like someone complaining about having to pay a few bucks for a gallon of washer fluid. OH my, what a crime.
As for the long lines??? Never happened to me. Usually, toll plazas don't like back up, and keep things rolling pretty good. It's the "EZ PASS" people that come barrelling through the gate, that scares me at a toll booth. What is a "Green Horn"? Is that a brand of beer???????

3 months from now?

This must be a disgruntled past employee, who had a bad experience with CRST. Or someone who just wants to move his lips. Can you see here!!! Nothing, you have said, is positive, they hired you, that speaks for itself, right???

Bordentown NJ

If you drive for CRST, you will know or find, that when you take frieght into NJ/NY area, you normally sit for 1-2 days. They haul allot of frieght in, but not much goes out. That is NOT unusual.

Stopsign CRST Van Recently DECREASED Pay for Trainers

I have been driving for just over 6 years. I have been with CRST VanExp since March, 2008. As everyone at CRST knows, the miles have been horrible lately. But running 370 miles one week, and 1500 as an experienced team (14yrs exp combined) is not what I am posting about.
I started out training with them and then teamed up with my old codriver from LandSpan, Inc. When the miles started falling like spring rain we decided to split up and start training. The miles have picked up slightly but I just found out that the Lead Driver pay has been slashed. Before, the Leads got paid regular rate per all miles for the FIRST week, and split miles at regular rate + $0.06 for the remainder of the training.

NOW, the Leads only get paid regular rate + $0.06 for the ENTIRE training period.
They also still expect the lead to sit in the front seat for that first week the student is driving. Also, the fleet managers will only give us loads with solo miles that first week unless the Lead say's the student can handle running as a team (not all students can do that the first week out).
That means that as Lead drivers we are expected to take up to a 50% pay cut for that first week of training.

Straight Road A bit more of my experiences with CRST

I know some FleetMngrs are better than others, but it too me 5 weeks to get paid for 700 deadhead miles. Our FM sent us from near SanFran down to LA just to get an empty for an HP load. The deadhead wasn't originally part of the load plan or dispatch and there were several mt's in the area (which we messaged her about) but she insisted we go down to LA and then back up to SacTown for the load.
She only authorized the miles for Payroll Dept to pay after I flat out busted her in a lie. I won't go into a trucker story about that unless someone just has to know.
I am also STILL trying to get reimbursed for $31 (30 for strg and .99 for ComCheck Fee) for picking up a loaded trailer at that big storage lot in E. St Louis (behind the Pilot). It has been over two months now.
In addition to the $31 there are various other reimbursments I am still waiting on totalling to $129.
I just asked her (the FM) today if she took care of those reimbursements I msg'd about and she said most were added in. Funny, I haven't seen one on my payroll statements yet. I now have to send it all to her again.

I haven't had too much problems with the miles being shorted, but most of those I catch before-hand.
You have to double check the paid miles they list on the dispatch. Because CRST does not like to run tolls, they will often route you around the tolls even at the expense of 200 miles or more. When you get the dispatch message it will sometimes list the paid miles as if you were running the toll roads. This has happend several times (more than 3) and has always been corrected--as long as I say something about it.

I am still trying to figure out what some people on this post are talking about when they talk about "crappy trucks" all they company trucks are under 4 years old. I never had a problem with my truck when I was there (over a year ago) complain about alot of things but equiptment should not be one. Just my 2 cents.
