Hello Judith.I am taking off from Massachusetts,in a rental, picking up another student near N.Y. border, and driving across Rte 90 to Cedar Rapids, Iowa,on Saturday.Recruiter told me it`s 20 hour drive.I start 4 day orientation on Monday October 12th,then with trainer for 28 days.I might have to cut it short,by a day or two, because i have weapons qualification shooting to do,at Fort Devens on November 13th.My recruiter said it`s ok.I would love to have a female co-driver.Seems they are usually cleaner and friendlier then most men.lol

Judith...are you looking to team w/ male or female or either?....how do they do that..have you had discussions with them on that? I read that the people taking their schooling kind of look for partners while going through school..just being the planning person I am..not sure I want to take that to chance...could be a long 8 mos without finding a good team driver? Seems like it could be great with the right person?...

ArmySoldierTrucker.....I am thinking the same thing...that I would prefer a woman codriver for the very same reasons you mentioned...plus if you check the safety stats they are safer

Oh by the way.I graduated 2 weeks ago from the Local 251 teamsters training school in East Providence ,Rhode Island.Class was 2 months, but were so overfilled, with students, that I was there about 4.I am very confident of my driving skills, for a noob.Problem is there are no union jobs with this economy. The school understands that,so they allow the students to go union, or non union.Sucks too, because usual union rate is about 50 cents a mile.I`m not a crybaby, though.I am here to raise my son,and do what I gotta do,to become a great trucker.

How far are you taking RTE 90.... Are you going around Chicago south on 80 into Iowa.... Did they pay for your rental?
I was suppose to go to orientation on 10/5 but got a call from my recruiter and they put it off until 10/19 which puts me home just in time for Thanksgiving.... I figure to I will proabably not be home for Christmas...That is the trucking business.
wHAT MADE YOU choose CRST?

Really Mike?I wasn`t aware that females had less accidents in trucking. Here in Massachusetts, there are a lot of car accidents involving females.Mostly cell phone usage,or applying makeup. That`s great to know though,Thanks for info, and good luck.

Yes looks like from Google maps,Rte 90 turns into Rte 80.It reads both routes on the map. That is the way I am figuring on driving.I filled out an application on layover.com,and it sent it out to about 7 different companies.Crst was first to respond. They also have the shortest training period (28 days).I need to be back for my Army drills, once a month.Other companies paid more per mile, but the training period was the main issue for me.

Okay they have a program called 20/10 which is what I would prefer to drive.... The only problem is you need two(2) others team members to run it...They get paid the most and get the most miles.... The truck never stops. You are out 20 days and home 10 days....You make as much money in 20 days as drivers do working all month with 5 days off.

For me I would prefer a male partner.... I am the mother of 3 sons and feel that I relate better to men....I do drive well and have every endorsement you can have including doubles triples hazmat and tanker.... So I am ready to drive....I also want to make an experience of it by having a cooler and some itenms to make life on the road a little more comfortable.

I sent my application in through layover.com too... That is funny.. I thought CRST was a good training program and they pay you per mile from the begining. Their insurance is a little expensive but looks like good coverage.

I got hired by werner but a friend from cdl school is there and he is getting used.. and barely learning anything. His first 3 weeks he drove 21000 miles with his trainer... They never stopped and all he got paid was 325 per week. That sucked. He is on his 2nd set of training weeks and has some 28 yr old with less than one year experience as a trainer. I don't know how safe that is.
So Army will you have a computer with you in orientation? So we can communicate and you can tell me how good it is?!!!!
