Wierd tho, cuz i used a loaner truck for a few days early this week, and empty i nearly made 7.5mpg and loaded i started making over 6. The loaner seemed to make alot more mpg for some reason. Wonder what it is with these Volvos that eventually starts bringing the MPG's down. These have Cummings motors btw too.
It was with a 2007 Volvo with a Volvo motor with over 600,000 miles on it that was never well maintained and badly needed to be overhauled.

Volvo trucks mated with a Volvo engine are ridiculous when it comes to mpg's. I have driven 2006 and 2007 610 Volvos with Volvo engines and consistently got 5 mpg loaded and around 5.5 empty.

Funny thing; when I slipped into a heavier 2007 Volvo 670 with a Cummins motor the truck got solid 6's when loaded and high 6's when empty.

I know this post is quite old, but I've been with Risinger for almost 4 months now, actually since 06/01/2011. For the most part, I don't really have too many complaints except everything we haul is HEAVY, and I mean 42,000+ pounds. A driver might get lucky and get a load with moderate weight but for the most part, HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY. On average, I run between 3200 and 3600 miles a week at $1.33 a mile. I'm a lease operator and after fuel and expenses, average take home is between 1200-1600. The trucking I'm leasing average 5.5-5.7 loaded, still haven't figured out why so low though. (Mr. Haney HELP!) But for the most part, just do your job and they're okay to run for.

Just stay light on the fuel pedal, then start adding some things to help fuel economy. I started out with a fleet air filter, air tabs, and better tires to pick up my mpg's (6.4). I will be getting a high-flow muffler and FASS in a few weeks, which should get me closer to 7mpg. My truck # is 8115 if you want to check it.

    risinger did me wrong

I was doing pretty good there for 8 to 9 months . Then they switched me to a new Disp. named TJ and changed planers and I went from 2 to4 loads pre planned to 1 load after load I was on. Then alot times they changed that load then change again then I had to drive like crazy to get them done having no time hardly to even stop and shower. I had several times toward the end I was late due to broker loads bad planning and they started to preach CSA be safe so I would make sure and run on my logs Legal told TJ told old disp told Joe whos the boss of all these Problems because I had no preplanning . Had 50% brokerloads which mean you sit 2 hrs to load 2hrs to unload then you have a hell of a time getting it there on time then its my fault. Then finally I have on a Thursday a call and tell Joe I'm getting no miles getting nothing but broker loads and he gives me a Uline load in WI 17 miles from where I would be del. going to GA .This is what happens next,I go to pick up BROKER LOAD in OH rock tenn paper rolls WAIT FOR 8 HOURS TO LOAD!! then drive to toll road of corse this load is to be in N. chicago bye 1400 .I'm inOH 6hrs away shut down at 0130 call and tell them theres no way bye 1400 i can be there 8hrs to load tell them will have there bye 1800 which I did. AT 0900 Rod decides to take off my uline load and give it to some other driver with out telling me now I have no load I call and tell TJ who happened to be back his first day from being on road with a driver that I'm p/off and how i've had nothing but brokerloads he says he sees that so do i get another ULINE load no. They try to give me 1 broker load i tell them no then another broker load . I told him i'm going to be 17 miles from ULIne I want a Uline load not another BROKER LOAD broker stands for you will go BROKER unless you are a independant doing them not a lease on onwer /op So finally I say I'm going to uline to drop trailor and get a load there or I'm going bobtail home . soooooooooo they say we have no loads there im there i see a uline guy putting papers in atrailer and i ask him if there are any trailors loaded ready togo he says dozen or more . Then I see a driver I knowwho tells me hes dropped and hooked 12 days straight avg 3700 miles aweek for the last month and pre planned till next thurs day its like 8 pm friday at that point I WAS REALLY PISSEDOFF so I GO HOME and I get a call from rod on speaker with joe and tj where he runs me in the ground about service failers and I try to talk and tell him about ALL I have said here about bad planing , no preplaning 15% drop and hook all the broker loads he cut me off and said we will be stopping or lease I i siad no I quit ## then I talk to j davis and he said we will not put anything bad on my dac they did first thing the comp I talked to says is ther is neg. items on you DAC ........ I did nothing but get 7 refferals to them have no point inspection on 09/1/11 go 8 months without being late . Then they treated me like Crap I will not forget this just like I got them the refferals I will let any one driving how they did me WRONG I started working for them after researching on the web and here . You can see I talked to Bigkid WHO bye the way the crapped on him also he was working avg. 3500 mi. a wk under a bad lease where he paid the 10 cents a mi he would never get back and never own the truck and he was cool with that bad deal only thing was they where to fix truck if any thing needed fixed guess what they stop fixng the truck which he was paying 400bucks + 350 for maint. $750 a wk and would never own the TRUCK not to mention getting 5mpg so H e went to another company RISINGERunreal how a Company can turn on driversgood luck to you still there might seem good now but can change very quickly HAVE FUN hauling all them IP LOADS

    Unhappy

IP Loads, tell me about it. I'm not even going to lie, it gets old hauling nothing but IP loads but the thing that gets me is they , and mostly all companies, get over on these HHG miles they claim to pay. I took a load that paid me 8 hundred some odd miles and used a HHG calculator from google search, and that was the correct number of miles calculated by HHG standard, but to actually get from point A to point B was 96 miles, an extra 110 miles that the truck wouldn't be paid for. At this point to be honest, I'm still debating. And the thing I hate the most is why do they send a message saying confirm dispatch, like we have other load options or even a load board LoL. It;s either yes, you can be bullied into taking the load or either sit, plain and simple. I thought as a lease/owner operator you would have a lot more freedom. Here it feels like I'm just a glorified company driver responsible for the fuel and repairs. I'm still making decent money, but it's a couple other things in my mind still conflicting with my ideas about my future here.

Yeah I was pretty much told a few times not to turn down loads when I was there. I only stood my ground once and said no when they had me planned on a few loads then tried to change them to other loads that would of been several hundred less miles for the same time period. Overall I always got good miles but just got tired of all the heavy loads and poor fuel mileage in the piece of junk I was driving. I drive about 600 less miles a week now where I am at but yet I still make more money per week mostly due to higher fuel economy. Plus about .10 more per mile.
