Butler Transport, Kansas City (will be updated as time progresses)

So I was looking for a new job and somewhere along the way I ended up putting an application in at Butler. They caught my attention because they wanted to fly me out to orientation. On their dime, not something that will be taken out of my check later.

I had a family emergency in Texas, I rush out to Texas and it wasn't much. I called Butler and told the recruiter I was here. She asked when I wanted to go to orientation, I said how about tomorrow? She says can you get to the airport today? So 2 hours after calling her I was at the airport getting ready to leave.

So I fly out, my recruiter, Sherry, called the shuttle driver personally and told him what time to be there. After I got off the plane he said he had been sitting there for 20 minutes waiting. How can you argue with that? He also told me they have a very rare turnover, and they only have about 300 trucks. He said more about orientation but I want to experience before I put it down.

About the hotel, it's nice. I am in a room alone, no roommate, California king bed, and a flatscreen tv. It's an awesome breakfast buffet too. If you complain about this hotel, your standards are too high.

So far I like what I see, the one rumor I did hear was that the President likes to see how the road is, every couple of months he will grab a truck and take a load out for a week.

I pulled this from their website:

    Hello ,

It breaks down like this: $.23 is a base pay $.09 is per diem, and $.02 is a bonus paid on the second Friday of every month provided the driver has run 12,000 miles or over, turned in satisfactory logs, and had no accidents. We just started the bonus program in November and we had twice the turnout than we expected which benefited both our drivers and Butler. Today I find out that they have a pet policy. No deposit or fees just don't let the animal tear up the truck. The company took us to Applebee's for dinner, I think everyone ordered a steak, then a steak and dessert to go. I've not heard anything bad, or anything out of the ordinary yet.

What I like is, they're not a newbie company. They want you to have at least 2 years. A friend of mine is going thru Steven's right now. He's hating it.

Kiv...Hope things work out for you at Butler. Sounds like you are off to a good start. We have a guy that drove for them where I work now. I think he just got tired of the OTR thing. We are all local with a few out of town trips but never more then one night out. If you see red KW day cabs with concrete pipe on the wagon, thats us.

And how does their safety rating effect my driving?

Anyways, I'm preplanned up until Monday. I got my truck on day 2 with everyone else. My APU doesn't work so I went to the shop, they said yeah we saw that so we cut off your 45 minute idle timer.

Performance bonus, paid monthly has nothing to do with fuel mileage. As long as you do 12,000 miles a month, and don't break the rules you'll be fine.

I left KC last night, I could have left today but I wanted to get a couple hundred miles down the road. I go to Wisconsin drop off, pick up another load heading to Houston. So that's 1700 miles already with 4 days left for more miles on my first check.
