I went in to speak with the TM today, seemed like a real nice guy. Anyway, it's looking good, I just have to wait now. I filled out a stack of paperwork thicker than beyonce's butt. The TM will forward that packet to corporate, and then they'll get back with a decision in about two weeks. I wish it were sooner, since the log hauling is really slow at this moment, but just be prepared for that when you apply at most companies, especially ones that are thorough. Starting pay is .44cpm, with a possible pay increase before I even start (Sep.1). I have to go out with a trainer for one week, TM said I would get mileage pay for that, but I didn't ask him to specifiy if I would be getting my full starting rate. I doubt it though. Anyway, seems like a good company, nice clean terminal, I'm anxious to get that call to come back for the physical, drug test, and road test. I don't have any idea what my runs will be like. I expect to get nights, and the usual stuff the new guy would get. This terminal is in the process of hiring 8 LH drivers right now, including me. I'll keep posting.

True. I don't know much about Old Dominion but I do know that FedEx, Pitt Ohio, and Ward Trucking to name a few all have forced routing. I can't work under those conditions.

I always liked Estes for linehaul drivers. There you're given the option of staying out, since they don't run many relays, if any at all. And, they're not likely to draft you for city work at other terminals.

I've been driving for about four years, have a little OTR, and a good safety record, plus my hazmat. Maybe that's why they called back so quickly.
Good luck!!!!!!!

Just heard back from OD today. Took them about 10 days to do my background check. The terminal manager called and asked me to come in for my physical, urinalysis, road test, etc., which will be done on Thursday. I wanted to do it right now, but I'm trying to finish up the pay period with the job I'm on now. Anyway, I still don't know when my start date would be, even assuming all goes well on Thursday. I guess I'll find out when I go in. I've been hearing all kinds of stuff about OD, I mean literally all over the radar, from the best, to the worst. I've about decided the best course is to keep expectations reasonable. My biggest fear is a layoff, or cutback in miles when freight gets tight. I've heard that can be a big problem in LTL. Anyway, I'm keeping my head down and minding my own. Later.

Well, if you are taking over a run that has been in place for some time, you have little to worry about, especially if it is the only one that goes where you are going.

As for cutbacks in miles, your only concern there is that you may get the day, or night, off occasionally.

OD.....

They not a bad co., I worked there for 6 yrs. (Mainly P&D)

I know the top pay scale here in AZ is .46cpm and they get a raise every sept or oct.

If you start out in Linehual, they will Start you ont the extra board.. and you might be out four 7 - 10 days at atime or do a meet and turn the same night... all depends on the freight.....

I know some of the drivers get some good miles out west. avg 500 - 600 miles a night..

Today I completed the physical, road test, etc. The TM said my anticipated start date is 27 Aug. Sucks, but I guess I have to wait and haul some sticks in the meantime. Peace!

OD also has a truckload division which are presumabley 53' dry vans. Those are ran exclusively by team drivers. The city guys don't run many doubles I guess, but probably once in awhile. The regular linehaul guys should be all doubles. I haven't started yet, but this is what I know about LTL in general.
