Re: Old Dominion for Newbies!!

Awesome info. I'll be looking at Old D in Jan when graduation is in sight. I wouldn't mind the long haul if I get home in a reasonable time. Hotel/truck sleeper I'm not stuck on.

The main requirement you'll run into at O.D. is the criminal record check.
if you have been convicted of ANY CRIME in the last 3 years you WILL NOT be hired !!!! Traffic violations are NOT included.

Re: Old Dominion for Newbies!!

Does a "newbie" need prior experience to come on board with Old Dominion?

Re: Old Dominion for Newbies!!

From what the recruiter from the Atlanta terminal told us was you needed to be in the top 85% of your class. Be an adult - not a baby that needs hand holding & attitude is everything. Have a positive work ethic, realize that as newbies we will get the #### no one else wants. That isn't any different from other occupations when you start out. A dollar is a dollar, no matter where it comes from, keep the left door shut and the wheels rolling and WE make money.
Everybody is always mentioning "Home Time". I asked him "What if I don't want to come home, do I have to?" Nope, you can drive as many miles as you want but you will have off time to max of 6 days after 23 out.
I'm waiting to be "down sized" probably at the beginning of the year. When that happens OD here we come with an attitude of - Nothing in our wallet and where are we going today?

well spoken !!
just remember that no matter what company you work for there will always be something you don't like. if your looking for the "perfect company" you won't find it anywhere. just try to keep a positive outlook and you'll do fine.

Re: Old Dominion Freight Lines - Thomasville, N.C.

I am currently in truck driving school. Got my CDL Learner's Permit this past week. Start yard and behind-the-wheel training next week. One of the school's owners talked with me about O-D. Said it was GREAT!!! From what I have read here, it sounds like it is so. Would like some input from current drivers. When I graduate in about 3 weeks or so, I would like to work out of the Greensboro terminal. Are they hiring? What would a newbie get as for a route? Thanks in advance for any input!!!
