I had another productive week. I finished the week with 3432 paid miles, and got home Saturday morning about 1130. Dispatch said to give them a call Monday morning to check in and see what freight was available.

It seems like every week this Winter I have been in snow, I guess our running area has alot to do with it. I woke up Tuesday morning in North Baltimore, Ohio to an ice storm. It took me 15 minutes just to get out of the truck stop and onto the interstate. I was empty and I couldn't get any traction. I made it down to Lima and picked up my load going to Pa.. I headed back down to the Flying hook in Beaverdam to scale and the parking lot was a sheet of ice. As I was turning to get on the scale, the truck had other ideas and headed for a row of parked trucks. I thought for sure I was going to slide into at least three trucks, but at the last second I was able to stop sliding. After I composed myself I decided to go around and actually back on the scale. There was another Cheeseman driver in the parking lot who wanted to know whats the roads looked like. I proceeded to tell him that once you got on the big road it wasn't too bad if you just took your time and drove smart. Well he proceeded to state that he wasn't going to get out on the roads and the load would just be late. I again stated that I had been on the roads for two hours and that the condition of the parking lot was no where comparable to the interstate. He proceed to basically call me a liar and say that I was taking my life in my own hands. Now I never try and judge another driver about there "comfort level" with driving in certain conditions, but my philosphy is I have bills to pay, and if I stay hunkered down in a truck stop waiting for the perfect weather conditions I will lose a trip for the week and instead of having a 3000+ mile week I might only have 2400 miles. I believe in MY driving abilities, and I have been blessed enough to accumulate over 1.2 million miles with no accidents and no moving violations. Sometimes I might push my self in adverse weather conditions, but I drive smart and I always look out for the "other guy".

I have to veer off on a quick rant.....two drivers have been killed at the the same truck stop in as many months in Tennessee, and both of these deaths were preventable. They both were run over in the parking lot at the Pilot on I81 at exit 4. One of my pet peeves is the idiots that come flying through the parking lot like there still on the interstate. SLOWDOWN AND HANG UP THE PHONE!!!!! I have gotten in verbal confrontations with drivers on several occasions who think they have the right to make the parking lot there own qualifying lap at Daytona.

Well I have get the honey do list finished before playoff football, so I hope everyone has a safe and productive week.

I couldn't agree with your rant more runningman truck stops dont need to be dangerous especially due to negligence. And turn your jake brake off when you pull into a truck stop we all know you have one and we know how cool it sounds.

How far west do you guys run do you ever make it out to iowa or the dakotas?

Occasionally they will have loads going out West,to Washington, California, etc.

As far as the jake brake in a truck stop, the first thing that comes to mind is...what a loser. I guess it's supposed to impress me somehow.

1600 miles last week/3 days off, I was on 24 west of Defiance in that ice storm, only ended up running like 250 miles that day. got a 5 stop Chicago run that paid $110 in stops that made up for the slow miles week.

2500 miles this week/home Thurs night and I'll prob leave for Chicago sometime Sunday.

both weeks I have loaded for home on Thursday night which has been nice. today I spent half the day at an International dealer getting my truck fixed and went directly to another International dealer to repower a load. then went home. what did I say about Prostars? they break down on I80 a lot which has been convenient for me and convenient for the company too haha. whatever, I'll take it.

things have been pretty laid back lately and the money is still good, need to run a few more weekends between now and spring though to pay off some bills and up my average for vacation pay.

I don't see how e-logs kills your 14. You start at 0700 and are off duty no later than 2100. Hopefully, you meant the moderate amount of city driving eats up your 11. Otherwise, you did more than the normal "fudging."

E-logs aside. Can a driver make $55K at Cheeseman? I am getting out of this tanker work and going to dry van. Flipping coins between Cheeseman and Crete.

I'm glad to see that Zumstein is running Cheeseman as well as Zumstein was ran. I worked for Zumstein about 10 years ago before I started running this LTL job, when they partnered with Cheeseman. Zumstein was always a good company to work for, home time when you needed it and miles when you didn't want the home time. I wonder if Zumstein's dispatch out of Lewisburg took over Cheeseman's in Ft. Recovery? Seem to still have the same communication problems:biggrin_25511: The issues were not terrible but they always could have been better.

A note on the People Net system. I run LTL and we have it in all of our trucks and I love it. Of course, running LTL I don't usually run up against my hours very often so I don't have to worry about that. But, it is pretty hard to "cheat" the system. I have only been able to get about an extra 15 minutes drive time out of the thing when the weather has been bad enough to cause HOS issues. But there again, that is not usually an issue for us because the company will send another driver to get us if we run out of hours, they really want the freight to get there.

How often do you have to fingerprint loads (other than blocking, bracing, and the like)?
