Anyone with a company that has a good lease to own program for wannabe owner operators? Understand Swift has a program, but don't know of others. Thanks.

It would make just about the same amount of sense for you to buy or lease your own jet right now! I think you have a long road ahead of you (no pun intended) before buying a truck. I would focus on getting your license first.

i would suggest being a company driver first. See if you can handle/like a truck driver life style.but even if you do, i still would'nt sign a Flease.as the fail rate speaks for its self.but hey you never know, you might be part of that miniscule percentile that doesnt fail. just my .02

There's an outfit in Savannah doing lease/purchase.

    Not to bad there.

Get some experience first, then look around for a lease.

There are true leasing companies that lease trucks to drivers that are not connected to the carrier where he works. I usually advise anyone who wants to be an owner operator to get some experience, get your credit in shape, save your money and then think about buying a truck. I have looked at many lease purchase programs at various carriers. I have not seen any that are to the benefit of the driver. If you lease a truck from the carrier where you are leased you will usually pay much more than you would by going to an outside source or bank.

If you really want to become an owner operator get with a good company, keep your nose clean and save money out of every paycheck. You could save enough to pay cash for a truck or have a really good down payment in only a couple of years. If you cannot save a good amount within that time they you will probably have difficulty running your own truck. It costs a lot of money to keep a truck running. Until you get into your own truck you have no idea what is involved. There are many more costs other than the payments. Besides, there is nothing wrong with being a company driver. Many drivers will make more as a company driver than owning it.

    Check out ATS.

Now, I do not know how they are now, but back in 1999-2003, I went on their "lease-purchase" plan, got a brand new Century class Freightliner, and ended up owning it. $2000 down, balloon payment of, I think (can't remember exactly) of $6000? Anyway, I did not have the cash, so they just let me run under the lease until that payment was taken care of, and the truck was mine.

I do know that they started leasing used company trucks soon after I got in my truck, don't know if they do the "new truck" thing anymore. They were a good, honest company when I worked for them, but it's been awhile since I drove for them, so...

Hill Brothers in Omaha NE....I believe they have their lease summary online. I've also talked to a a few Christner drivers that were pleased with their situation.

Hill Brothers does have a decent looking program. They even have a way for you to purchase a brand new truck...very interesting.

Thanks. Got license today. Worried about finding a job with a decent company at my age (59). You're right, I've got a long way to go before I need to think about owning. Thanks again.

Since my post, have had a chance to talk with a lot of other drivers and they share your opinion. Good enough for me. Got licensed today, so hoping to get on with a "good" company. Worried that my age (59) may be a problem. Will see. Thanks for your reply. Have a good one and stay safe.
