National is covered by FMLA, but you are not eligable for FMLA untill you have worked for the company for a year. So what they probably did was terminate you, but put a rehire in your folder. I have been through it with simalar companys. I have worked at National for 9 years and have had no problems with them. National is a small company and knows everyone by name instead of a number. Where else will you find the president of the company changing tires on your truck!! This is a great company to work for, and they are currently hiring.

    They are hiring...

I wrote the below post in September of 2008, and I post it again here to support Grayhare's contention re NDL and their supposed family first policy.

My wife and I (driving as a team) worked for NDL(National Distributors Leasing) a trucking firm, and we were just TERMINATED for choosing to go to our daughter's wedding versus running another load for NDL. If we had ran the load it would have caused us to miss the ceremony. Time off for this wedding had been requested at least a month in advance. It was even mentioned to our dispatcher as a reminder the day before we were to have off. We were assured that we would be back home in time. NDL kept us rolling on the day we were to be back home, and also wanted us to do another load that would have extended our time by at least another day. We had no choice but to come back empty, A daughter's formal church wedding with family flying in from all over the USA is something that is special. We were told "it looks bad in getting us home" was simply not acceptable to us.

How far empty did you drive? What is their deadhead policy? Also you had a choice to come back m/t, you just made the wrong one and it cost you your job.

it was about 5 hours MT, NDL wouldnt permit us to bring the load to the terminal and allow someone else to finish the run. We were to be off on the 10th, and were still rolling on the 11th. Wedding was on the 13th, and we still had a 15 hour drive to the wedding with a van load of relatives plus the usual prewedding tasks to be performed. Some choice, keep job or attend wedding. We are parents before we were drivers.

Beware of national distributors leasing/inc. Do not work for this company.my husband has been working there for 7 months and since he's been there, his checks has majorly suck. For instance, he's on the road for 2 weeks at a time. He took a trip from kentucky to laredo, texas which is very close to mexico..he did this trip and 4 more and for 2 wks...his check was only $500. They dont pay for all ur trips then they make excuses for why they dont pay u on the trips. "oh we got the paperwork too late and all kinds of shenanigans. This has happened to him numerous times with ndi/ndl..(they go by both names). This company is not even in the top 100 truck companies to work for. Lesson learned. My husband has been driving otr for 4 years now, and he's never worked for a company like this. After this last check he is quitting. The trucking industry is hard, especially if u have a family. But this company do not work for them. They dont do what they say they will...plus get this..on their check stubs, they dont list the amount taxes have taken out, then they make u take advances every week..even if u dont need it. Truckers beware of ndi/ndl!! They are no good at all!! Plus they take ppl with no experience and train them and put them on the road..red flag...ne company thats reputable or pay good wont do this. Reputable is good paying trucking companies want ppl thats at least had 2 yrs experience. Do not work for this company, if u do u will regret it!!!

[NDl was good to us we started there in feb 2005, as they were one of the few companys that would train me and my wife toghter ( yes 3 in a truck is a little tight) after we got done with training, we were giving are own truck. then miles were great for a team 6k to 9k a week. home time was ok 2 weeks out 3 days home]

National will have your pay check in the bank every payday. Health insurance benefits are lousy. Pay is flat .36 mile. Lots of miles if you want to run. Automatics. Electronic Logs. Tractors are high milage, as of this posting the newest tractor they have 1 2010, a couple of 08 and down the line. The one I'm driving is 04 766000 miles. Few new trailers. To tell you the truth they act like a company that is trying to get all they can out of everything they have before they close the doors. Just my opinion. I had a blow out with a haz-mat load, found a safe area called shop and was told to take it a truck stop about 4 miles behind me which men i would have to go to next exit and turn around. (Tire was shreeded off the wheel and the cap came off and busted the oil hub sight glass.) I told them I don't think so. I called the safety director to let him know what was going on and he said he didn't see a problem with taking it to TS. I told him if if was going to ts they would have to get someone else to come take it. I called my Dispatcher and he said that Robin the COO just got off the phone with him wanting him to talk me into taking it to ts. They finally sent out road service.

COmpanies are never family first, though they wish to be viewd that way.
Just the way it is, I had a factory job with a supposed leader in world industry, same stupid stuff, poorly maneaged and contradictory rules, Your son was more important and your wedding of your daughter was too.
Companies hold all the cards you think, but thats what is great about the internet
post a you tube video about yorr experience, especially when they are so rediculous that they can not be made up, and if everyone that knows you, can attest to your honesty, they can not change what you say.
    Its great.
