After you guys got off of your trainer's truck and started running solo, how long did it take before they took your training wheels off and started running you 2500ish miles per week? I read somewhere back in this thread that you can expect some loads that are like 600 miles with a dock time 3 days away while they feel you out.

That's all up to you. bump those docks on time, do your check calls and let your dm know you are a runner. then you will see those runs less and less. although they will still pop up from time to time (someone's got to do them...) but for the most part, those kinds of runs will be used to get you into an area with more freight.

hello everyone. i am leaving this saturday to go to FFE Academy. i have been researching all the threads on all the forums and let me tell you, i am now kinda scared about my decision. i have seen where most of the drivers have done great, but a few have some horrible stories. and the one Danger put up really has me thinking now. i would prefer to stay on-site, if they put me in the hotel it is gonna be a kink in my finances...lol i quit my job last week and the very next day had the FFE recruiter sign me up for the 16th. i have experience driving a truck, my ex was a driver and i drove with him even though i had no license at the time. i went two months ago to the local dmv and took my class A test with doubles & triples. i passed, so i have a class a permit in the state of arkansas. FFE informed me i would have to get a Texas class A thru them. i guess that would be ok. is there anything you guys can tell me as to what to really do to get thru this 18 day of class? any info will be appreciated. thanks so much.

1. Follow instructions.
2. Do your homework.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Parking brakes, emergency brakes and spring brakes are the same thing.
5. Follow instructions.
6. Do the homework BEFORE you get here.
7. Follow instructions.
8. Have a positive attitude.
9. Follow instructions.
10. Study the manual.
One more thing - follow instructions.
Staying at the hotel is free. They pay for it and the shuttle to and from the hotel is also free. You will have a roommate; there is no way around that. The advantage of staying at the hotel is that you get a free hot breakfast every morning.
The dorms are fine. They are loud because many of the other students are inconsiderate morons.

Well, I finally got the ok from my boss
to go ahead with this,at first she wasn't to thrilled on me leaving but I wore her down slowly and she finally agreed I should try this and give it a shot. I will not know if this is what I want to do unless I try it out first and give it at least a year, worse case scenario I hate it and I go back to welding.
So I'm set to start on the 26th and I will be taking Amtrak to get there since that is something else I've always wanted to do is take a train ride somewhere of distance. I've only been on a train once and that was from Colfax Ca to Reno Nv over the Donner pass during the winter time and I thought it was pretty fun and enjoyed it.
One thing I forgot to ask is how large are the classes every week starting out on average? I've heard of some places that start out with as little as a couple people to where some have 60 or more students at a time. Just kind of curios on how many people go through there on a weekly basses, thanks and have a good day.
