It's a pretty good company, I think he'll be happy. Obviously, there is no perfect job. It would be hard for me to say the average pay, because it really depends on what they place him on. I usually gross 800-1000, some of there top guys on specialized stuff probably double that. O/O's a whole different story.
Last week I was down for two days getting a new clutch, then I had to try to deliver another drivers load and missed appointment by fifteen minutes, so I was stuck in Minneapolis for the weekend. You know, no job's perfect, sometimes you get the cream and sometimes you get the crap. But they did put me up in a hotel for the weekend. And it was just one of those things that happens.
I'm in truck 2562, tell your hubby to holler at me if sees me around.

He is in orientation right now, and after his first day he likes it - he is a bit leary because the guys who are at the hotel with him (they're getting repairs) are telling him that they don't pay on time and they owe them paychecks. I am chalking that up to driver error. I told him to remember that if paperwork isn't in on time, they won't get a check ... and little things like that.
They're talking bad about the company, and that's not what a new driver needs to hear lol I told him what you said and we both know people on here shoot pretty dern straight. Haha Ill let you know his truck number also as soon as he gets one.

I've always been paid on time. Someone will explain the paperwork in orientation. We use transflo, which is a fax system. If you're not familiar with it, transflo machines are at most major truckstops. You fill out a cover sheet and fax it in with each bill of lading. You can also get your own scanner and use transflo with a free program called Transflo NOW! That is what I do. That way I scan every BOL, so I have a digital record of every load on my hard drive. Also, transflo then sends me a confirmation by e-mail which I save in a seperate folder on my google account. Basically, that creates two records of every load I haul.
We also send in the originals using TripPak. But my point, I think
, was that if your hubby has a laptop, he might consider getting a scanner. If he sets up the program with a shared e-mail you could both double check paycheck's quite easily and if there's any problems you'll have the proof.
Personally, I would be skeptical of trucker talk about missing pay. I had a girlfriend who worked in payroll for a construction company. She told me that 99% of the time someone would come in thinking they'd been ripped off it was some kind of error on their part and when they ran the numbers the check was right.
I will be straight up with you there was a couple times when I switched loads with another driver or delivered a load somebody else dropped at a yard I felt like I should have gotten a little more on the percentage. Or from time to time I've had to deadhead long distances. They do pay a little on deadheads but it's not as good as getting a load. In those instances it's easy to feel cheated, but I think it's better to look at the big picture. I've been happy with my pay, if over the course of a month I have to haul a couple low paying loads or deadhead a couple times it's really not that big of a deal compared to the big picture.JLynn Thanks this. -
I will have to say, the driver that he was there with is about the most horrible employee on the planet .... I swear he didn't have one good thing to say about Buchanan the whole time he was there. Through orientation and just being able to talk to the owner, and then what you have said on here made my hubby disregard what was being said - but holy cow. Even yesterday; he is being put on a moderately dedicated run for the time being here in West TN hauling shingles to two different locations; he can do two loads a day. The driver comes back with, "Oh, you won't be making more than $500 a week on that - get ready to be screwed on that" well .... if the loads pay $800 to the truck, you get 26%, and can do 2 loads a day - that doesn't come out to $500 but O-K-Buddy.
So I just chalk all that crap up to a pissed off employee. He really should find another job if he hates it there so much, and he definately shouldn't be feeding new employees crap like that.
Also, e-logs don't seem that bad We were both like "ehhh" about them, but he said they will be great. He won't have to run outlaw anymore, and that is the best part!!

finially a chance to do this
well im over my bad deal with this co. all i can say now is that if u go to work for this co. hope its flatbed as their van division sucks
spoke to an o/o yesterday who is still there but lookin for something else say they'er still trying to get u to haul cheap stuff anyway he says two more from or class have quit (lol) as for me im happy at my new job
pro transport (grand forks,nd) its 27% for a co. driver free medical after 90 days (bcbs) so far im only averging bout 600 net a week they also have low pay frieght but the people make up for it hopefully ill be gettn so higher paying loads newer clean trks mine 09 frtlinr they also have volvo an cornbinders u pick from what ever is avalibale
