No I'm not with them anymore, and my step dad sold the truck.

How bad did CRST Malone bone you?? I’ve talked with one of their agents and he said he could keep me busy and could use another truck. I have a friend or ex-coworker that was leased to the same outfit that I’m currently with who jumped ship and went over to haul for this agent. He has been there almost a year now and seems to like it, and every time I talk to him he has over $2.00 mile freight on his truck. That isn’t saying much since we live near Gary Indiana and it’s easy to get that kind of rate around here. I’m sure I only get the good picture from him because he has one of those attitudes. If I could average $1.50+ for all miles I would be happy.

If I may ask, Scarecrow,

Did he sell the truck because of malone, freight, etc. or was it family issues that come with working with family?
Thanks just curious. Trying to decide on going with them or not.

It could go either way.

Jash369 did the recruiters seem desperate to you?? I inquired about them at the truck show in Louisville, KY and left my name and number. They then called me Monday and I spoke with them some more and basically told them I would be ready to lease to them in 4 weeks. Well the next day I get a call back from these guys and they offered me $1,000.00 to lease my truck with them the following Monday plus orientation pay. Just makes me suspicious………..but if I can still get the sign on bonuses I might try it since I have nothing to lose.

It was a combination of the two. It started with not making any money because of their freight or the lack there of, then the family squabbles started. I wanted to switch companies, but my step dad kept saying we should stick it out. Eventually, I just snapped and told him he needed to put the truck up for sale or find someone else to drive it.

Like many companies, I'm sure there's a way to make money with them, but we couldn't find the magic combination.

Sure enough! And contrary to what I once wanted to believe, it doesn't matter what name follows the acronym for Cedar Rapids Steel Transport.

I was out of the Rockport, IN terminal and ran mostly in the midwest. They give you a map of the US with the "hot zone" shaded in. I only left that area one time. Went to Denver from KY for $1.85/mi and came out to Oklahoma for $.95/mi

What was the average pay rate in their so called “Hot Zone”?? Yeah, going to Colorado I definitely need well over $3.50 a mile because you take a bath coming back.
