Being out of SW Florida, I have less options than in other parts of the country. Many good companies don't hire here, but Heyl does, and they are treating me very well.

I started on with the Trop Dedicated Fleet out of Bradenton,Fl in early 2011.. It was flat rate pay that worked out to 18 per hour when I calculated it out. Not bad at all for that area, for being home every night, and most weekends, with an occasional load to Carterville Georgia and back that I did a couple times a month. Local work that still counts as OTR experince is a very good thing.

in Sept 2011, I requested to be transferred to the OTR division. The pay here is .36 to start no mtter how much experiance you have . I make .37 because I've been there over a year. They top out at .38, but don't let that deceive you. I make practically double what I made at my previous company which had higher base pay on a sliding scale... No sliding scale with Heyl. The more you work here, the more you make.

The key is the miles duh.., and the bonuses. With this company I averaged 2500 miles a week the first 2 quarters, but this last quarter I averaged 3076 miles a week, for a total just shy of 40k miles. (39997 to be exact.) I make the 1cent fuel bonus everytime (even though I idle all night), and once you make 28000 miles in a quarter, you get another penny a mile retroactive. So that puts me at .39 a mile. Then add an additional 5 cents a mile for every mile above 28000 miles for the remainder of the quarter. This puts me to .44 a mile for the remainder of the quarter. I reached the 28000 milestone in early June. So I ran the whole month of June at .44 a mile. This company gives dispatch a bonus, based on your bonus, so everyone is on the same team. They didn't dial me back once I was in the bonus territory. As a matter of fact my last load of the quarter was a Washington State to San Antonio run that was dispatched at the end of June, but delivered July 3rd, but becasue it was dispatched in June, It still counted towards the previous quarter to put me to the 39997. Bills scanned by noon Tues get paid that Thursday, and that load Load was scanned in time to have a 4091 paid mile week which was my biggest miles week with the company so far. My paycheck the following Thursday was over $1500. My miles turned in on 7/9/12 were less (in the low 2000s), but with my quarterly bonus, yesterday's check was over $1800. I was able to save $1000 this week towards getting a house which is why I'm basicaly living in the truck on a 2 year plan that this company has turned into an 18 month plan becasue of working me so hard. For that I'm grateful and writing this.

I'm not going to BS you and say you will make what I do. I think the average guy here probably averages 2500 miles a week. That's what I did the first 2 quarters, and did 33000 miles a quarter. What put me over the top was a couple things. I don't take official off time that I could. When I get a load to Fl, I haul ### and get their early enough to see family, run errands, then get to the Delv early enough to have a fresh 14 when MT. I do that on all deliveries, and have the whole time I've been here, but what ended up happening is I would get there a day early, wait to delv in most cases, then they would look for a load after MT. Now what I do is communicate better, and tell them I will have a fresh 14 when unloaded. This has resulted in more preplaned loads, and is what I beieve upped my average by 600 milesa week this last quarter.

I have an excellent Dispatcher "Doug B" who is a fomer driver. They have the best Safety Dept and Maintenance I have ever seen, and it shows on their excellent CSA and the way DOT treats our company. I'm in a 2012 truck, in my previous truck "a 2011 Casacadia' I drove over 100k miles without a mechanical breakdown,or anything that required me to even be routed to a terminal. That's rare even with a new truck. I'll call that one luck.

They are picky here, but if you have a clean record, and want to make some money, give recruiting call and tell them Mike in trk 2504c sent you.
I'm writing this now while backed into a dock in the Indianapolis waiting for my paperwork. Brought this up From Fl. They already have a load waiting for me not far from here going to Vancouver, BC Canada. I have a passport so that's why the C is on the end of my Truck Number, but you don't have to have a passport, or go to Canada to work for Heyl, but having a passport and TWIC doesn't hurt. They'll even reimburse you for one,if you get it while hired here. No Hazmat/ No Touch Frieght.. I'm also one of their handfull of Trainers with them. They will hire a student, but they are very selective, and I think they hire most of them out of the Sioux City area.. But don't quote me... The only thing with this company that could be a downside is if you don't live near a terminal because they won't let you take your truck home...

I'm gonna be upfront. If you mention me and get hired ,I would get a bonus, but that's not why I'm writing this. I'm just really happy here, and gratefull to be acheiving my goals.. Good luck in your search... Mike

I was just filling out the online application. I'm from FL, I used to run OTR but lately I've been Regional with a company that although is a good place and almost everyone is nice, I'm not getting the pay I deserve for my experience. But I'm glad to hear Heyl is working out for you. I'll put your name and truck number down on the referral line! LOL

    Thanks Nievesco....

    Thanks lbwdrgr,

They have been using Transflo at the Truckstops for at least a year, but I also have the Transflo program installed on my Laptop and a scanner/printer/copier/fax that I picked up cheap at Best Buy. They were using trip pack when I started early in erly 2011, and I think some of the local guys still use it.

They were my plan B in case plan A didn't work out. The only reason I didn't was because my current company gets me home every weekend, for a legitimate weekend. Heyl could only do every 10-14 days. If it wasn't for that, I'd be at Heyl.

They got me home mostly every week; or at least I passed by home spending a night there. It depends what area of the country you live I suppose; they are a good company... I was there 6 months; haven't gotten around to saying my 2 cents about them, mainly cause everyone else has already said it all.... but yeah they say they only promise "10-14 days" but you'll be home alot more than that
