Well after considering many different companies and considering the needs of my family I decided to make the switch to west side. I'm taking their regional option, with my wife expecting home time is very important to me. I am supposed to head to cedar rapids Sunday to begin orientation on Monday. I will post on here my experience with them as I go. Hopefully it will help other drivers who are considering them.

So the 2nd day is officially over...back at the hotel now..not a whole lot of excitement today so this will be pretty short. Everyone has been great thus far...I have no complaints about anyone or anything...the food is excellent the people are awesome..what more can you ask for? West side is spending a lot of money upgrading their terminal here...they are building a brand new one with hotel accommodations for their drivers...if anyone has any questions feel free to ask

What is the hiring area for Westside?
How much experience do they require?
    Do the run elogs?
What kind of fleet do they have? Autos? Truck brand?
What speed do they dispatch at?
Do you know anything about what kind of regional options they have?

They hire from quite a few states...there's a couple guys in orientation from Atlanta..but depending on where you live depends on what options you would have...I am on the Midwest regional where I can be home most weekends...as far as experience goes they do hire students and we are running elogs which has its good and bad points..and they have very nice equipment that they take very good care of...every time you go to the terminal you go through an inspection lane..which the mechanics give it a quick once over and check and replace lights as well....the trucks are all 2010 and newer but they are automatics....which I am not that excited about...I would rather have a manual..but overall this seems like a very good company

Good luck, maybe they changed? It's about the worst company I worked for. In the bottom two at least. :) I hired in OTR and everything was okay. Then a couple months later the company went all short haul stuff and miles dropped to 1500-1700 week. I gave them a fair chance and stayed 7 months but the miles just wasn't there when all they have is 200-300 mile runs. You'll spend plenty of time in a truck stop. They haul plenty of glass, Toyota forklifts, appliances, HON office furniture which you have to tailgate and dry groceries from what I remember. Checks were around $650-700 gross.

I hired in from TN and had a hard time getting home so I ended up staying out 3-4 weeks at a time. After discussing getting more miles with the senior dispatcher all he said was if you don't like it then quit. So I did and even took a load back to the yard as dispatched. Then they trashed my DAC which I disputed and won. Give them a chance since you are already there but I'm just making you aware of my experience.

Yeah I hope!! They no longer haul glass...they haul a lot of paper now...and they got rid of that sliding pay scale

So far I have nothing but positive things to say about west side like I said earlier they really have exceeded all my expectations...I'm excited to find a trucking company that cares about their drivers safety and equipment ..we get our trucks tomorrow and my career at west side truly starts
