The company I work for recently started offering a new schedule to its drivers. I am considering it myself. You and another driver would share a truck, you are in it for 4 days, then he or she is in it for 4 days. They are also paying a higher CPM for this because the truck never stops for long. $.40 for newbies and .41 to .45 depending on experience. Naturally, your miles will be less since you are off 4 days at a time, that is the reason for the higher CPM too. BTW, this is Garner out of Findlay, Ohio. It is sounding good to me since the hubby is now retired and I would like to be home more. Still thinking....
4 Days out, 4 Days home( even for newbies )

If they let you keep that sweet Volvo you drive sign me up! I"ll slid seats with you!
-
Oh yes, I get to keep the volvo! That way they get more miles out of each truck, less down time on the weekends.
-
That's not a bad deal. I think trucking companies would find that they can keep more drivers if they didn't try to keep them away from home for so long. Although I would prefer a 7/3 or 10/4 or something like that myself.

I understand companies offering 4 days out 4 days off..10 days out 2 days off..
lets do the math.. In a perfect world,
11 hours driving at an avg of 50 mph. Is 550 miles per day.
550x.40=220$ a day x 4 = $880 week...minus taxes 675$ take home..
Then you're off for 4 days? You just cut your take home almost in half!
People people people!! Truck driving is not a vacation! It's a job, a hard job, a difficult job! It involves sacrifice and dedication..It is every bit as comparable to the military (minus getting shot at (usually) and the exercise!). But time away from our family is a must if you're going to make any money OTR.
If you want to be home every night or every 3-4 days go work at McDonald's..you will make the same amount of money by the time it averages out at years end.Dharok, CrappieJunkie, unholy7 and 2 others Thank this. -
Why do some people think their shoes have to fit everyone else's feet? Ever heard of a retiree trying to supplement their retirement check? Maybe they don't want to flip burgers or tend bar. Maybe they enjoy a new challenge but still need to maintain things on the home front as well.

Redo your math at .30 per mile for a newbie vs .40 per mile for a newbie doing 4/4. Not saying it is for everyone but a very nice option for newbies.
briarhopper Thanks this. -
To me it is all about finding the ''sweet'' deal and cashing in on it.It is out there. The problem has always been, finding it.It takes alot of research and pounding the pavement to go against the ''norm'' in trucking.Right now i have a work week of working 3 on and 4 off.It pays 2100.00 to me after my deductions.
I have been at this a long time to know that this will come to an end at any given time. This is the nature of trucking..This gig could end in 1 week or 1 year or 3 years. We just never know in the trucking world. You will ride the horse till the horse breaks its leg.
The only thing in trucking that is for sure,is everything is not for sure..
