How much current experience does he have, and how is his driving record?

 

Well I love driving tanker and I make way more than that so yeah, my opinion is to start dropping aps off.

 

Please....I beseech you....do NOT believe what you heard about CRE. Just spend 30 minutes researching CRE here on this site and you'll see what I mean.

The first year is the toughest, no doubt. My recommendation, based upon the limited info here, is to stick it out a year if you can, six months at the very, very least. As far as pulling any HM tanker....my own opinion is one should have a good year under his or her belt before tackling that particular line, but there are companies that train, such as Schneider (not a terrible option, IMHO).

I guarantee you, though....there is light at the end of the tunnel. But I'll also guarantee you that it is NOT an England truck. Remember....you are most vulnerable when you're struggling. Do not let him make a hasty job change based upon one or two "truck stop" stories. Take the time...do the research, then make your best decision. It won't be perfect, but it beats jumping head-long into something you'll regret.

 

Packard and I will disagree here. I believe experience doesn't matter when it comes to tanker, it is the person that matters. But I do agree Schneider is a good option, but as many of you know I am a little biased, lol.

 

Only reason I would prefer someone have some experience other then tanker first is to get a better understanding of the basic skills required to handle a rig, never mind baffles, non-baffled tanks, surge, etc. Certainly not a deal-breaker, but just an opinion.

I applied to pull a propane tanker when I had about six months experience, and I can flatly say I wasn't ready for it. But I also started at CRE! (true...I lasted five months....). I went back to them after I had about three years experience, and it made a world of difference.

 

30000 to 35000 is first year pay
flat bed gets better as you get experience
5 months is still wet behind the ears

 

He lives in AZ. There are some really good companies hiring out of there. Gordon, System, TWT might be, look around. Don't limit yourselves. There are some really good western companies. Id love to know who he's working for now. I have my money on Melton. Mind you I have $5 right now, lol.
