I currently work for a company driving in the state of Florida. I do 2 runs. Tuesday morning I leave from Ft Lauderdale and deliver up to Tallahassee, stay at a NICE hotel and then deliver back down to Ft Lauderdale. Thursday morning same situation only to Orlando and back. I also have to option to work Monday if I want to pick up another 5-10 hours. My take home is around $900, sometimes more sometimes less. I love the job but I always feel like there's better jobs out there, as far as money goes. Should I stay or should I get some endorsements and do some moving around? What can I potentially be making by moving to another job? No OTR! I'm a city driver, always have been always will be

Better in Florida? And stay within the state making that kind of money, not to be offensive but you're crazy to think you're going to find much better. So you work, what 4 days per week and make that kind of money? You know the answer to your question, no need to come here and validate the good job you have.
The Challenger and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this. -
Well I know I have a good job but I just figured it was average. I hear of guys at some LTL company's that start out at 20 some dollars an hour. That's #### good money! Just wondering if that would be my next step or if I should invest my time with where I'm at. Not looking for validation

I have been researching this industry for a long time and let me tell you; that's some darn good money in this economy. Unless the company is telling you to do illegal stuff etc..., I'd stay where your at. Many truckers in FL dream for that type of run. Good luck and please keep posting about it.
Edit: I do not know the local opportunities within Deerfield Beach, but I do know @ Publix you need to have some time in the wharehouse before driving a truck. Conway, ABF, Central, SEFL, Winn Dixie have terminals around Miami. If you move, you would have to start out at the bottom of the ladder and go up. Also, theres a chance you would be required to sit on call.
Questions to ask before moving; ??? Is your company growing??
Where does the company see itself in five years?? In other words, will you build on seniority??
Which company offers better benefits than where im at now???

Thank you for your input KingHunter! I really love the 2 runs I do. I guess for some reason I felt like there was more money to be made elsewhere so I'm always looking for other opportunities. I by no means was gloating or bragging about the job I have, I just figured it was average. I was going to get my hazmat, doubles and triples and jump on with Southeastern, R&L or YRC because I thought that is where the big money was at as far as local city driving

Sounds like a nice gig, druss17. I'd be very careful about rocking that boat. On the other hand, it's always good to know what else is out there. I'd make face-to-face visits where I thought might be a possible next stop. Nothing official. Wouldn't fill out an app. Just make some connections. You'll probably find that you have it pretty good.
Put visits on your list for Mondays for a while. Go visit. -
The Challenger Thanks this.

Trust me your getting paid good and your home every weekend. Your making the same amount as Local Container Haulers down in Miami and they own their trucks.

The fact that some people thought you were bragging should give you an idea of how good you have it. We've been looking for something like that for a year out of Orlando and still haven't found it.
