Just wanted to share with any drivers out there looking for a good company to drive for Cargo Transporters out of Claremont, NC is a great company to drive for.
I went back to driving about 10 months ago after a 6 year vacation and they are really a top notch company to drive for. They treat their drivers well and Get me home about every 10 days. The dispatchers are good people and will do all they can to accommodate the drivers needs. I used to drive for Old Dominion and they were also a good company but CT treats you more like a real person. Now one thing I will tell you up front is YES we have cameras in the trucks. I will also tell you they DO NOT record unless you do something to trip them such as hard breaking or hard lane changes. Other than that they have saved a lot of drivers being wrongly charged with causing an accident. Here's a list of what they offer....
Students 17 cents per mile for 8 weeks training and 38 cents after training.
Exp. Drivers 41 cents per mile
2 cents per mile safety bonus paid every six months. (July 4th & Christmas)
All trucks Auto Shift with manual option.
VERY well maintained fleet
Run mainly east coast. Average home every 7 to 12 days.
Hiring area NC, PA, OH, MD, W.VA, VA, SC, GA and FL
No I'm not a recruiter just a driver. If you have any questions please ask and I'll do my best to give an honest answer.

How long are you home 34 hour reset? Is there alot.of northeast? And how much exp need to be at .41 cpm
Thx -
I'm home most every 7 days so resets don't really affect that often. I think the home time is a trade off for the Northeast. I run north about 5 times per month and sometimes 10. We run mostly east of the Mississippi but we do at times go out west but not often. Most of the west is left to the few teams we have. I'm not a big fan of the NE but I guess with the home time it's a fair trade.
The 41 cents I believe is for drivers with over a year experience but don't hold me to it. If you talk to their drivers you'll be surprised at what they have to say about the company.
They treat the drivers really well and I have a pretty decent pay scale. I also like the "Human" side of the company. We have pic nics and cookouts a lot. We also have company cars you can drive while your at the terminal to go grab some food or do some shopping. Not a really large company, We have about 500 drivers. Really nice trucks and their maintenance guy's really stay on top of things.

We also have a pay raise coming. (Effective March 30, 2014) Experienced Regional and solo OTR drivers earn up to .41 and OTR teams earn up to .2575 CPM.)
They are opening a new terminal in Charlotte N.C. so they will need to hire another 50 drivers to cover the extra freight volume.
hal380 Thanks this. -
They have a LOT of Northeast, but since we have around 500 drivers sometimes you can luck out and avoid going up that way. Also a lot of stuff going to Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Atlanta and Chicago.
A lot of drop and hook runs, I have had weeks where practically every load was drop and hook at shipper and consignee, then other weeks when I stay hooked to the same trailer for 3000 miles. Very little driver assist freight.
My only complaint about the company is that were paid book miles. The Challenger, hal380 and smurf-316 Thank this. -
Thanks fellas really considering it it would be nice to get home weekly especially since I will be a newlywed here in a couple months staying out 3weeks and getting home for 3 whole days is getting a little stale...btw congrats on the baby.. also I live in eastern nc I know ct is in western nc
-
I think you would like it there. As a newly wed I'm sure your wife would like you being there...lol
hal380 Thanks this. -
Bunk rooms are provided free of charge if your at the terminal and don't won't to sleep in the truck. Also a company car is available if you need to run some errands. There is also a fully equipped laundry room on site.
The Challenger and hal380 Thank this. -
question..... do they go to NY city and the 5 burroughs? do they have regional or dedicated regional oppurtunities?
-
We have a non forced dispatch so you do not have to go to NYC or LI. I think I have been offered 3 loads to that area since I've been working here.
They have a "regional" fleet. Seems like most of the regional drivers I talk to say they get about 1500 miles a week and brag about being hone every other night. I've had 3000 mile weeks while being home every other night. Seems like most of the regional drivers #### around in Atlanta and waste a lot of time down there.
Cargo technically doesn't offer dedicated runs but some people have them or at least find them self running a general area regularly.
