My fiancé and I graduate CDL school this week and now we have to make a decision on what company we are going to work for. We have pre-hires with several companies, but think we narrowed it down to 2 starter companies. US Xpress and Con-Way. Has anyone in here teamed for either of these? We have been doing a lot of research on both. Both of them seem very similar.

    The major differences-

    US Xpress:
    They are geared towards "teams"
    48c split with Hazmat
Training is team style, after trainer is comfortable with trainee they work as a team.
    98% No touch
Pay Zip Code to Zip Code
    Right side Cameras

    Con-Way:
45c split. 50c split when carrying Hazmat load
    4c safety bonus
They have 1 week of boot camp
Training is 1 on 1 with the trainer always up front not team style.
    Pay Practical Miles.
    NE Bonus pay

These are just some of the differences we found so far. There are other differences, but these seem to be the bigger ones we've found so far. We would love to hear from those working in these companies. We have done online research and talked to recruiters and TruckDuo from USX. We like USX mostly because they are team oriented, but we like Con-Way because they seem to have a great training program. We need to make our decision THIS week. Just didn't know if maybe there is a catch or a drawback to either of these companies we didn't know about. Please help! Thank you.

If you come to Conway ill yell at you if you say .....we're a team We stay up together and drive.

    Deal?

    (I should be a recruiter)

    Now... bout that bonus.

Ain't too bad overall but it can piss you off a lot if you let it.

Hahaha. We already know we are not going to be up while the other drives. We know we will have opposite shifts. We also know not to hold our breaths for bonuses. Usually there is always a catch people are saying.:) How long have you been with Con-Way CargoWahgo?

Oh you'd be surprised at some of the ways teams act at the dispatch windows. Good to hear.

I been at Conway for 3 yrs (3ceo's)
    Furniture straight truck for 8
Ambulance medic for the city of Louisville 2

I enjoy the whole not lifting obese ppl or king size mattresses here the most ;-)

Unloaded probably a dozen trailers by hand.
Hammered in boards prob 50 loads. Not a big deal. Tap tap boom boom.

Lol I know what you mean. I was a CNA for a while, so I had to lift plenty of heavy people on a regular basis. Was not fun at all. Haha so what are some of the funniest things you have seen from the teams?

I worked for Conway Truckload. The team drivers I spoke with seemed happy enough. A few things to add on the Conway side..If you get stuck waiting someplace where you don't have shower credits, they will reimburse you. Same for parking. And they give you $50 a month towards your cell phone. They will also send you to Canada. Con-Way Freight does LOL And pulls double. Good luck!

    zackery2011 Thanks this.

One thing to point out is each of the two has its positives and negative points. Both have excellent equipment and maintain them well but Conway gets the nod for better trailers. Have you considered Schneider as well?? They also have excellent equipment and pay up to .49cpm as well.
