No specifics listed regarding pay scale at the company site. Simply states starting pay depends on experience. Would be nice if these companies would put the pay scale in writing rather than "fish" for phone calls.

Why put it in writing? I wouldn't pay a guy with a couple wrecks and tickets the same as someone with a clean record. Not all drivers perform the same. I'd rather talk and negotiate my pay regardless of what it says. My current job I got .02/mile more than what their website says.

What few BigG drivers I talked with were happy. I pickup at the Shelyville Tyson all the time. The last time I got flashed was by a woman in a BigG truck. I kind of like them. :biggrin_25523:

We can agree to disagree on this topic. I believe in transparency. I want to know what the current pay scale is based on years of experience AND what the pay scale maxes out at.

Too many carriers play fast and loose with pay scales and will offer new hires a higher rate of pay than current existing drivers. To me that is an insult to every driver that is out here.

Experience equates to value and that value should be reflected in the companies pay scales. PRINT the pay scale and then drivers can compare for themselves whether they are getting a fair deal or not.

they pretty much hire drivers that live on the I 65 or I 81 corridor and anywhere in TN. 840 is the nick name for one of their terminals.

I've been at Big G for about 2 months now and I'm ready to go back to my old job at Star. They promise you weekends home and you will get home... Maybe even long enough for a reset. The volvos are about the biggest pieces of crap I've ever seen on the highway. I've been broke down or had some random issue almost every week. I've been moved in 3 trucks now and they all have had problems. Its not Big Gs problem they do great maintenance, I just see it as being a cheaply built truck. They pay is really not as high as I expected for the 6 days a week I seem to run. They have a rider policy available from day 1 it costs you $60 a year. Also a pet policy if the pet is around 15 pounds... $250 a year. Benifits and t shirts after 90 days (granted ill be ###### if I'm wearing anything with a flamboyant bright orange G on it) . The runs are mostly east coast, teams get the west coast stuff. The trailers are in fairly good shape although they have 97's which shouldn't be on the road. Facilities are all top notch, showers, scanners in all. Orientation is short 2 days they give you your own hotel room. Mostly live loads and appointment unloads. Trucks are set fairly fast at 67... That's really about all I can think of for now. I just don't see them as being the company they try to play themselves off as. I'm going back to Star when they say weekends off they mean Friday night to late Sunday or Monday morning, not this 34 hour ######## that's my biggest gripe. They also have a recruiting contest, the driver who recruits the most drivers gets a prize this years its a ford ranger pickup. Plus the $50 dollar bonus but I can't really recommend it here if you value your hometime. If you don't care about getting home its probably not that bad.

If you are looking for a good company with good benefits that include medical benefits, you do:biggrin_25510:"NOT" :biggrin_25516:want to stop here!! You get sick before your one year anniversary and you are out of luck. They will cancel your health insurance before you get out of the hospital. They are always hiring drivers, always! Why?? I regret the day I ever signed on with them!
Praise GOD I did not have to stay any longer than I should have. Cancer looks good on the outside while it kills you on the inside!

I gave Big G over 2 years away from my family and friends. At the beginning things were great, plenty of miles, good hometime and they treated you good. But after 1 year things were getting worse. Low miles and there were times where I had to sit for as long as 20 hours just to get me a load that only had 200 miles behind it. Not to mention there were times I had to take my 34 hour reset out on the road because they failed to get me home.

Several Big G drivers have told me that if you want to turn in your 2 week notice they will bring to their 840 location and tell you clean out your truck and they will provide you with a bus ticket home (which they will take the fee of the ticket out of your last check). So I opted to avoid all of that by not giving a notice and turning in their truck at the Clarksville Indiana yard. Only to find out they are charging me $160 for a "recovery fee". And since I had less than 1500 miles the previous week and after insurance, taxes and other personal deductions, I didn't get a final check.

Form your own opinion if you want about this company, but there are too many good drivers getting screwed over by companies like this and it's thats sad!

I met up with four of their drivers and they all raved. When my last three months are done at PAM, I am siging up and getting through their orientation ASAP after a week off. One of the drivers Wayne, I have spoken with face to face and on the telephone last week, he was home watching a ball game and took time to fill me in on how they work and how happy he was. I am convinced and I know that for the ####e I have gone through with PAM, Big G will be my golden ticket. Yes, all trucking companies have problems, but when you are a STOCK OWNER with Big G, you will get treated quite different than some greedy corporate concern. Check out their video's on YU TUBE and thier ESOP program and how their stock is constantly rising. PEACE.
