First here's a disclaimer to hopefully head off the don't do it/you'll be sorry posts this kind of thread always gets.

    DISCLAIMER:

I know I'm renting a truck and have no intention or delusion to believe I'm going to actually own it. It's a walk away lease. I wasn't happy with the level of revenue I was getting as a company driver so instead of leaving I decided to see if going rent-a-truck will increase my income. If it does great I'll stick with it till I'm in a position to obtain a truck through traditional means. If/when it drops to an unacceptable level then the applications will start flying and I'll be out of here.

Now for a few details of the lease.

Truck: 2011 Grey Volvo 670 w/417000 miles on the odometer.

    Payment: 400/wk

    Total Fixed Cost: 577/wk

compensation: $.96 per mile for loads over 550 miles
$1.07 per mile for loads between 276-550 miles
$1.26 per mile for loads under 276 miles

Fuel surcharge: Based on National average paid on loaded mile(I'll post what it is each week when I post my settlement numbers for the week)

Deadhead: Varies depending on cost of fuel(I'll post this with my settlement numbers too)

Fuel Discounts $.05 in network at truck stops(TA, Petro, Pilot, Flying J)

Fuel at Knight yard is typically $.10 to $.12 cents cheaper then retail truck stops.

I wish you luck but just know that you're getting it stuck to you at every turn on this deal. I guarantee you Knight is making money off your fuel purchases. I'm a one truck wonder and I get .20-30 cents per gallon discount through my NASTC card. At 417000 miles the truck is going to have much higher maintenance cost than a newer truck. There is a reason why this truck is a lease truck, they've run it out or nearly out of warranty. Last but not least, it's going to be tough to make any money at a buck a mile average. Any major repairs or tire cost and you are in the hole for a week or two.

I really do wish you the best but I can not understand why guys keep going for these obviously bad deals.

On my 4th run so far. Bought fuel at the yard in Phoenix for 3.719 on my first and second fill up. Got 6.64mpg on that second fill up. Topped off at the Love's in Lake Havasu, AZ at the loves before heading into California for 3.839 and 7.14mpg.

There's a maintenance repair program that covers most stuff either 100% or 80/20 depending on what that is. I DO NOT HAVE to use their fuel network. I could, just like you, get a NASTC card. The truck came with new tires all the way around so unless I have something unfortunate happen Won't need tires for a while.

Got 7.6 on the fuel mileage gauge today. So far that gauge has been consistently two tenths under what my actual fill ups have been. Sitting in the tulare yard waiting for the shop to open tomorrow. Found a few things they missed when prepping the truck. They give you a week to turn in any problems you find and a month to get them fixed at a shop so everything they fix will be free this time.

Almost forgot to add, been reading through my contract(yes they gave me a copy, actually they gave me two). Anything major enough to cause more then one negative settlement can be paid back on an installment basis of $100/wk.

I used to work at knight also and wish you luck on your adventure with this......but.....

when I was there and I talked to quite a few of the drivers that were doing the lease deal, their problem was not being able to get the miles, and I have to admit that even though I had a great dispatcher there were times that getting a load was hard to come by. I knew drivers that didn't get a check for weeks at a time.

I am am not sure how long you been there but it seemed to me before I got a great dispatcher the first 3-4 months I ran my rear end off, then after that I had to fight for every load. Switch dispatchers and things were easier but at times had to fight for a load.

again I'll follow your thread and wish you luck as I am just curious on how things turn out for you.
