Just wondering if anyone here works for them or has worked for them? I've heard good stuff about the company and they treat their employees well. Heard the starting pay was $25 an hour with full benefits and paid holidays, overtime, and local.

Yep..look around at the staff, they are younger men for a reason. Good place from what i hear, but prepare to work hard.

I have worked for Sysco in Canada (BC) for over six years. People bash the company and it is understandable because it is tough in the beginning.

There are generally two groups of drivers at the two operations I have worked at.
1- drivers that have not been around very long.
2- drivers that have been around for ever.

The job is not for everyone. If you have a temper or are moderately prone to frustration this in not the job for you. If you value a work life balance right away it is also not the job for you. In the beginning you have to run your arse off and you will still be the slowest truck in the fleet and your will have to suffer the ire of upset chefs who expect a better standard than you are able to provide. It is humbling. In the beginning you will suck at the job and only time and effort will make you better.

If you need to be the bread winner for your family and are willing to put in your dues for the next five years this is an excellent opportunity and the reason is simple. You can make excellent money as there is always more work than there are people willing or wanting to do it.

Each terminal pays differently so I can't speak for my own situation.

I work 4-5 12 to 14 hour days per week. I start at 3am. My paycheques (Canada eh!) are in the $3500 - $4000 range every two weeks. I am tired all the time but my family is well taken care of while I am the sole bread winner.

Other guys work 3 14 hour days a week and still make around 60k a year. They are all long term employees who have spent 10 plus years earning the the runs that make this possible. Gotta say a three day work week is a pretty inspiring goal for me.

Hope this helps. If you are new to Sysco and want one piece of advice. Get your truck organized and stay organized. You are going to have to touch many boxes twice, just make sure you don't have to touch them a third time.

    Cheers

What determines if you get the baby trailer instead of the normal size trailer. I wouldn't mind pulling and unloading the baby trailer.

Hah. Actually the best trailers are the 38 footers. More room to down stack and organize. The smaller trailers often have just as much product stuffed into them. The trick is to get all the skids to one side so you can access the frozen through the bulkhead instead of climbing in through the side door.

That pup can be no joke. I worked for US foods and had 800 cases stacked to the door. First couple stops your pulling boxes out and putting them back. Getting behind. 36 ft trailer is better cause of the room.
