In two weeks I will be on my way to either Minnesota or Ohio for orientation and truck assignment, so I hope.

Many years ago I was stupid, caught a few felonies, and have been limping ever since trying to land that one regular trucking job with a major or semi-major company.

For the last 2 years I've had my CDL I've been working in the Carnival Amusement industry; the last 10 months of that I've been putting in major miles for one carnival outfit, learning tons, and doing my "time" so-to-speak.

Accomplishment-wise, J&R Schugel seems fairly impressed

    -I've driven doubles
    -I've driven permitted, over-weight loads
-I've put in roughly 40k-60k accident-free miles in this carnival season (we do a lot of doubling back, and we only drive)
-I recently applied and was approved and recieved my TWIC card this year.
-1 moving violation in every trucker's favorite state (California) for driving in the third lane

I think I have this job. Recruiting tells me I do, but I don't believe it till they hand me the keys to the truck. Been at this point before with two majors (Covenant and Ryder Dedicated in Louisiana). I gave my company a whole months notice, and was fairly frank with the J&R Schugel recruiter to please make sure ALL background checks, driver verification and driving history comes back and is approved by the powers that be. I gave them one whole month to do this. I call them every week, and they say they got all my verification's back, and my felonies are irrelevant as they were over 7 years ago.

Anyone currently working for (or very recently seperated from) J&R Schugel that can offer any input at all, would be greatly appreciated

    Chinatown Thanks this.

Best wishes with the new job. If it doesn't work out though, there are other companies that will hire you without all the drama involved.

I hope this will work out, to be honest. I've stayed out of trouble, kept my license relatively clean (minor moving violations), and got a TWIC card for Christ's sake. Next move is Hazmat, even though it's redundant. I got the TWIC Card to prove companies I'm at least 7 years from my convictions and 5 years from my incarceration (it's more than that, but that's the minimum for most).

I'm tired of working for Carnvials. They have taught me tons. I've learned how to maneuver a truck so well in the last 2 years it's not funny, but it's time to move on and go do the driving I want to be doing: OTR, and LEGAL 11/14/10.

What I don't want is to end up with a company that runs you illegally.
