Welcome to the benefit plans offered by the big companies. What a load of crap! Benefits as well as pay and hometime should play a role in which company you choose to go with. Good luck on your search.

I worked there in 2005 thru 2006,All was good for about the first 6 months making good money had a nice truck then one night I pulled into yard and went to turn around by back warehouses and caught my DM goin down on another DM and I knew her husband we went to school together, well after that my truck went in for pm I had a 05 long nose pete it went in for pm and they gave it to someone else, cleaned it out threw my ##### in boxes and gave me a 2000 shortnose pete ran like #####,then my truck was parked in the yard and my cb was stolen out of it I went to her with the problem and was informed that they had cameras in the truck parking lot but since it wasn't company property that was stolen it didn't concern them they wouldn't even look at the tapes,I figured if you have a theif among your drivers you might want to find out about it but apparently not them. Then what did me in was I went from about 2600 to 2800 miles a week down to around 1200 1400 when I asked her about it I got really shi*ty runs so I just moved on,that was my experience with smith transport in my opinion when barry smith quit having as much to do with the trucking part of it it went down hill big time.

Yeah, if they were devoted to their drivers, why are they having to hire new drivers to replace the ones that left. I done flamed Smith on another thread so I won't do it here. Believe me they aren't any better than the rest.

Cool A Rare Thing......

It is a rare thing to read more positive comments about any company than the expected negative remarks.

I've been delivering freight since 1974. I have learned to make my decisions to jump companies only a handful of times since I started as a local driver at age 16. You can spend months agonizing over a great decision and end up with a crap company or spend a day to decide to leave and wind up with a good company. We never really know.

Since all companies have something negative to consider, I'm sure Smith has a skeleton or two in the closet. Even though, if you are aware of the problems and can work around them in todays' weird economy, you can work well with many companies.

WOW! That is alot of negative stuff there. Really makes you wonder how ANY company can stay afloat these days.
So most of those posts were about a year ago. Anything changed at Smith lately?
I too am thinking of jumping in their direction. I don't care about the shinny black trucks, or DM's goin down on DM's(snicker). All I want is a Co that I can work with.
GOTTA be better than it was at Swift.

And as far as the guy that jack-knifed. I beleive that most of Smith's trucks have those super single tires. You REALLY have to be carefull in the snow and rain with them. They will break lose much easier than the dual singles.

Just keep in mind all of you wanting to go to Smith Transport, US Xpress bought out 47% of Smith Don't know if that is going to make a difference in the operating at Smith, but you all know about USX.

And Pizza Eater, No SMX is a part of Western Express, not much better, but may work out for you.

Ok. I'm strating with Smith on the 7/20. There'll be no more negative stuff here to scare me! lol Just kidding. I have driven myself INSANE checking and reading all the stuff on here about every company. I'll read alot of posts and think YES this sounds great, and then continue and see some posts that just bring it all to a screetching halt! I guess anything can happen. But I can't believe that a good driver, young or old, that takes whatever loads he can to get the miles, will be treated badly.

I've worked for 2 companies so far, and I know how it works. The new guys USSUALLY get the worst runs. It's the same in any industry. The BIG thing is,,,,, is this the company that I can work for and work with for many years? SO, with that being said, is it merely "what you put into it"? Or is EVERY company only out there to use the drivers like litlle whores and spit them out when they are done with them?
I guess we'll see.
Later
