Check out the drastic measures that Gordon Trucking is taking because of the price of fuel. Go to their website. It doesn't look like a promising trucking situation at this time. I drove western regional once and it was up and down the I-5 corridor (boring) 90% of the time until you went to the house for home time.

Well I dont think anything they are doing is out of the norm with most carriers. They just started a fuel optimization program whereas Schneider has had one for quite a while. They are slowing trucks down, parking trucks...etc.....I think everyone is doing that.

Still enough morons idling at night in the truck stops I stop at to fuel my work day. Unbelievable!

This past Fri, Sat, and Sun nights it was in the 50s in NM and CO where I was. Down right comfy sleeping weather. Always some guys idling. I do not get it. These guys must not be able to do math.

$50 (roughly) a night to idle for no reason????????????

Other than parking 100 trucks I don't see any thing very drastic there. All practices that smart business folks must make these days.

Parking 100 trucks is not going to really help unless those trucks were unprofitable. If thats the case by all means park em.

    I think,.....
assuming everyone who's idling their truck is a "moron" isn't fair.

Does that math include doctor visits if they have a medical condition that requires a warmer sleeping environment?
    Or a cooler one?

Who are we to decide what other's needs and/or reasons are?

Now, I'll admit, there ARE those who would idle their Big trucks for days while they're sleeping in a motel, and some folks still have pets that require a more uniform temperature. Since I don't know each and everyone's circumstances, I refrain from passing judgment as to when I think they should or shouldn't be idling. For all I know, they might have weak batteries and want to be sure their fridges work and the Big truck will start when the key is turned and/or the starter button pushed.

EVERY driver, IMO, should be entitled to a COMFORTABLE rest period. Period.
If that means idling the Big motor -- so be it. Chalk it up top the rising costs of doing business and RAISE THE DAD-GUMMED FREIGHT RATES!!
Why are Big truck truck drivers expected to suffer -- which COULD mean that the general motoring public will suffer, too?
That just doesn't make any sense to me.
Especially when SAFETY is stressed and the drivers SHOULDN'T be.

No one I know would consider sleeping at 57 suffering. If they did i would have a few choice words to tell them about how soft we have become in America. I've slept at or below 0 under a stack of blankets. 50s is balmy in comparison.

I suppose the rest of your points could be valid.

Could be like that lady I saw once, in Key West. Temp dipped below 70, and she had a full length down coat on.
