as i read the post of trucks being turned down to 62 it kind of dawned on me that night that i was sitting in the yard after driving all day. it kicked in, looked around to reasure myself where i was and yelled "####!". the next morning bright and early, one of the mechanics came knocking on my door to bring it in to one of the bays to turn it down. i should have kept going that night, i had plenty of hours left

now im doing 62 on my way to california, oof

Swinging Meat Loads

Does Trans Am carry swinging meat loads? Are all the loads "no touch" or does the driver ever have to help load/unload? I see, Pope, that you said you were headed out to California. Have you been up to Oregon/Washington? How much do you get to drive out west?

I begin school on Thursday and so it is time to get serious about the companies I would like to work for. Trans Am is on my list. My problem with them are the trucks they use. I would prefer starting my career with a company that does not use auto-shift.

swinging meat? lol no man they are in one of three ways; in a box on pallets, in large containers, or in a box stacked on the ground. you very very very rarely have to help with unloading. ive done it once and it was because it was a mulch run to a home depot that was from a brokerage. and in the rare case you do have to help unload, contact dispatch and they'll pay you for it. again, it is very rare that you do. 99.9% of the time you hire lumpers (which the company puts the money on your card and you pay by comecheck) or its pre-payed which means you dont have to do anything back in to the door and wait for your bills.

this is the second time i get to go out to california in the one year ive been with them. i love these runs because they pay alot and you get to see a different view. havent been the northwest yet but we do run out there. hopefully this time around i get to go since i dont have to be back home in two weeks (by my choice, i stayed out longet to be home for mothers day)

auto shift is not as bad as people think it is. once you learn to shift at your school, its like riding a bike, you never forget.

Back to the 'unloading freight' issue; TA has a No touch policy, and it's wrtten out real well in the Employee Handbook... ...employees will not handle or unload freight. Just get the checks registered and let someone else do it.
