It has an odd way of sucking you back in, even after 23 years.

I used to rent a car often to do some sight seeing, but this year has been a little expensive for me thanks to the housing market so I have had to cut back quite a bit. Last year before I started my little stories I spent a lot of time checking out places like Portland, San Antonio, Ft Lauderdale, New Orleans, Southern Cali, Southern Maine, and many various middle of no where places. Maybe I'll be able to pick up the pace next year if the economy ever decides to come around again.

Hopefully Crete will welcome you aboard, but for the most part they only hire from PTDI certified schools. They do make exceptions, but you would have to call them for details.

What trainer you get would totally depend on who is available when your turn comes up. Who knows, maybe it will be me, they've been trying to talk me into it lately. I may give it a go. I did train one student about 7 years ago, and if could train her, I can train anyone. It was my wife
Hey ET. Concerning the Qualcomm message of returning to training that you got on friday from Brent, I think you should do it.

i am just starting out in school. i have been in school for about three weeks now and i get out in april. i am glad you posted this because i can acually see real numbers rather than the #### recruiters try to feed you. my question to you is, what kind of equipment do they have and is it up to date or do you get the old thing possible to drive? also do their bonuses have any strings attached to them or are they straight about their bonuses? also do they give you a dedicated truck or do you swap trucks all the time?

Me thinks you know too much. Have you been rattling an old bag of Bones! But then, there are no mountains in Cleveland. Such mystery.

I told him I'd give a call on Monday to discuss it.

Crete's trucks are standard issue, no frills, bare bone Freightliners. There are some Internationals in the mix, but they have been going to Wal-Mart dedicated fleet from what I understand. They are all less than four years old.

There are no strings attached to the bonuses because we don't get any. The bonus system was scraped a couple of years ago when the company implemented the 3cpm across the board pay raise.

You do get assigned a truck that remains yours until it is traded. No slip seating.

......as a fall-back, I've already been pre-hired at Werner, but Crete is my #1 choice and I'll be really dissapointed if they don't hire me now. I don't think they'd be taking all this time and going through all the motions if they were not seriosuly considering me...
OK, put your hands out and I'm going to hit them as hard as I can with a really big stick. Never say the "W" word again on this thread.

You couldn't possibly choose a worse company to drive for. You would be better off getting a job at the local Circle K. No disrespect meant towards Circle K.

Well, it is 3:30 in the morning and I almost spit my orange juice all over my laptop when I read what you wrote back. Yes, it is quite perplexing to know so much from "Cleveland," or am I even in Cleveland? (ques the scary background music)

I have admired you from afar, made a few drastic choices in life and hear I sit in Lincoln going to SCC. It was cheaper for me to come out hear then to stay home with the wife and kids. Needless to say, I have made friends at the home camp hear and he loved what you had to say few pages back about taking 8 minute breaks and such. So much so that he sent you that message after reading that and what I had to say about you. Also, no they don't sit around and read what drivers write on these pages. He said to tell everyone that they bairly have time to read their emails and quite honestly he had never heard of this website.

I went to the yard sat. to do some laundry (3 loads)around 10 am. and met several nice drivers and one in particular I talked with and drove for CCC for the past 3 years. Talk about a parallel universe, we had the same name(first name), been divorced once, been in the Marines, worked for ODYS in the past, and there was a few other things that I can't remember but I didn't leave the yard until around 7 pm. He showed me the fine art of picking a trailer, air line locks on empty trailers, and choosing loads on the Qualcomm.

I can't sit hear and say that "trucking is in my blood," or "it's all I ever wanted to do" because it is not. I may even go back to what I did before. I just don't know. I am just at a crossroads and don't know where I am headed. I even told him that (who you got the message from) and he understands.

So in closing, if I continue down this road I may even start my own "Crete, A Year In Review - the 2009 Edition" thread. I also have a nack for writing from my college years. You know what they say, "immatation is the greatest form of flatterly."

I had a great trainer, and feel I am really ready to start on my own.
I was just reading through your posts looking for a "training review". It sounds like you had a good experience and should post it. Assuming I get hired, (today's the day I find out I think, fingers crossed), and I can't get evertruckrr to train me, (hint hint!), I might bug you to see who your's was. That post of yours about "get'er out, get'er up & get'er in" cracked me up!

Congrats on getting through your training. I was looking for a post on your "training review" but I didn't see one. It looks like you had a good expeience and folks might benefit from your story. I'm curious, did you get any home-time during the 8 weeks? I figure I'll miss Thanksgiving with the family, and maybe Christmas this year too, but I'm sorta hoping I'll get some home-time for Christmas...

How soon do you figure it will be until you are assigned a truck?

Ouch!

Thanks for the heads up. I was beginning to come to that conclusion myself.
