Every time I deliver a load I get the no freight message and sit around for a day or so. Of late. I delivered to NC and was told to check back the next day. After siting for about 30hrs I ran a 500mi load up to PA (bad news) and proceeded to sit for about 37hrs. Then it was time to run another 500mi run that ended up in the Boston area where I sat for over 24hr waiting. That was rewarded with a 800mi run right back down to NC. Once empty I got the same "no freght" message and sat for another 24 and was deadheaded to Ohio to get a load.

I'll give em kudos for that one, 450mi deadhead to get me back into the freight lanes. But it is bitter sweet because I now have to sit for 34hrs to pickup this 339mi run that doesn't deliver until Monday at 11pm. That will result in another 34hrs down waiting to deliver. And guess what kind of freight is going to be offered to me in the middle of the night while I'm sitting empty in MD. Even if they do have a load for me, my 14hr clock will start in the middle of the night, so my Tuesday is shot on top of it.

The most frustrating part is that I was talking to a couple of drivers while I was sitting in our Greensboro yard. When I walked into the Columbus terminal today they were here too. They both had loads that picked up this AM and were good mileage D/H runs while I'm stuck here with my 339mi run that I'm going to be under for the next 3 days. And it wasn't a pay scale issue either, they were both at a higher pay rate than me. Just a luck of the draw thing.

By the time I'm empty and under a load again I will have a grand total of 2521mi over a 11 day period which could very easily turn into a 12 day total if I don't get a load out of MD when empty. That's a little over 200mi/day average.

Where is SuperSnack, we need him back here to absorb some of this bad luck.

I knew the first quarter of this year was going to be a little rough. But, OUCH!

GET ME OUT OF THE NE!
BUMMER! Hope the miles pick up for you and others. I can officially say that I wouldn't trade Marten for Crete! However, I'd trade our dispatch for Crete's! HAHA.... I personally don't care for our dispatch but he does get us the miles... We're at home now and I'm charging the camera right now. Going to get pictures on here of the caves if they turned out. Does anyone know if I can put a video on here? It's about 20 seconds long I think.

Caves in Kansas

Ok, here's a picture of the 'caves' that I took in Lenexa, Kansas. Only one that turned out.

I have a video but am not sure how to upload it here. May have to use Youtube.

Hope it works!

Evertruckerr, I know exactly what you are talking about. Last time I was in SC I sat from 1400 on a Thurs to midnight on Sat before I got a load. Sat in Indianola Ms for 48hrs too. Now I am sitting in Redding, Ca. and they are running my ### off. 3200 miles last week and once I deliver in Boise Tues morning I will have nearly 2500 miles for this week already. Usually when I'm in Boise they have a dunnage load sitting at Coca Cola in Fruitland going down to Fontana that delivers as soon as I can get it there. I've already been out more than 4 weeks (my usual limit) but I'm thinking as long as they run me like this I might just stay out for a couple of more. My terminal manager thinks I'm crazy for wanting to run out West but I always get better miles out here. Got my first 3 load load offer in months this morning. Only one was any good, but it was still nice to see.

Oh, to get west of the Mississippi ... I sat outside the gate of my Charlotte, NC consignee all night, got in the gate as soon as it opened, got my empty call in at 0503 and ... no freight. "Where am I in line?" "About 30th." Then at 0754 ... "You are in the next 20 to 30 this a.m. so find a spot and will offer as soon as we can today."

The trick is getting out there. I even have a home time request in and was sent back to MD. The hard part to swallow was that there were at least 5 guys in the Columbus terminal that were deadhead up from NC like me. They all had productive miles but me. One of them was even sent off to Lincoln with a load (would have been a good start at getting me home).

My current bout with bad luck continues today. It started yesterday when I asked dispatch for a better appointment time because I would be there by Sunday. The original apnt was set for Monday 23:00. I was told to check back in the morning and they would try to work something out. So I did just that, expecting the request to be ignored. I was very pleasantly surprised to get a message back that they were working on it and shortly there after I was sent a rescheduled apnt less than an hour away along with an Apnt #.

This makes me very happy and off I go. The customer is less than a mile away and I pull in with my Apnt# in hand. Moments later I am told this load has been canceled. Oh no! I then tell them that I just received a new apnt because my original was set for 2night at 23:00 and my new one was for the top of the hour. I am then told that is not possible because they don't accept deliveries at that hour and my load isn't on the schedule for anytime today.

After a number of messages back and fourth and conversations with the receiver I find out that Crete got this load from another shipper that couldn't cover it. I also find out that this load was canceled out of the customers main office in AZ last Friday and hasn't yet been rescheduled.

All in all, an absolute Cluster and I'm still waiting to find out what my fate will be, but it looks like I may be under this load far longer than I anticipated. Dispatch has assured me they are working on it and will get it straightened out, but I saw the Unloading Schedule while in the guard shack and nothing is being unloaded after 11am (I assume that is the end of their day) and it is now 10:22 with no resolve yet.

UPDATE:

Moments after posting this message the qualcom sent me some good news. "Everything should be OK now, here is new PO#, it was never updated in the system and the BOL has the old PO"

Sure enough. The new PO worked and I'm docked and half the truck is already unloaded. Although I am now an hour late for my appointment (I was on the books all along for 10am). Ugh! If I hadn't pushed for a new appointment time this morning I would have been up the Creek. I would have pulled up to a locked gate in the middle of the night, then wait all night for the day crew to come in and straighten out the mess with what most certainly would have been a reset appointment for the next day at best. What a day, and it hasn't even started yet. Now all I have to do is put in an empty call and wait for the "no freight" message that is sure to follow.

The folks back at the office did a great job getting this little debacle straightened out.
