Is there anything I should be aware of coming into orientation (any surprises). And do most drivers get their truck assignment in Lincoln or do they send you out to pick up abandoned/repaired rigs?

What percentage of Crete's fleet have APU's, and what's my chance of getting a truck equipped wih one?

Are they phasing out the FLC's in favor of Internationals or still buying both?

I'm three weeks into the application process (company driver) and expect the go-word from them soon. They offered Western Div only, so that's why I'm asking about it. Any info and advice is much appreciated.

Dang you ask a lot of question! That's a good thing.
The FLC is no longer being produced so yes they are going with the Fr8tliner Cascadia and the IH Prostar. Rumor is they have had enough issues with Fr8tliner that they are going more in the direction of IH. Oops there I go spreading unsubstantiated rumors.
In the Crete group on CDL of it we have some National drivers that had a good weekas well they should the freight index has moved up a little for 4 wks in a row, with a 2.5% increase this week. I personally had a 2900 mile week.
I talked with a friend of mine on the West Div and they were keeping her busy.
Don't know the percentage with APU's they tried 50 of nite system. I have one of them, works okay, would work better with the optional small diesel motor to charge the batteries when on more than a 10 hr break.. 1000 Thermokings and 1000 Carriers. All of these APU's are going on .the 2007 trucks. The 2008 and 2009 trucks are just getting the espar heaters which work great.
They could indeed assign you a truck in Lincoln or put you in a rental car to 10 buck 2 to pick up a truck. If the truck is as a terminal it will have a decent detail job, no promises for the abanded truck, sorry.

If you think of any more questions feel free to post, I'm sure someone can answer.

"Bones" is a real "piece of work" ain't he??? Real Name David Christopher, if I remember correctly. Funny guy.
Last time I was in on of his safety meetings, the guy next to me was a retired US Marshall.

"Bones" keeps it entertaining; that's for sure.

If you wind up on the Cheyenne board, I pity you. I hated the FM there, and SLC is almost as bad.

jchors.... looks like you got most of your questions answered, just wanted to welcome you aboard the "crete fleet". In my humble opinion and contrary to what a few others think, ( hello longbow!, lol ) youve made a good choice signing on w/ crete. ...My miles fr the month of May totalled out to right around 10, 300. That includes 4 days at home, sitting involuntarily sat aftrnoon, sun and mon on memorial weekend and a few instances where I didnt get a load after emptying untill the following day. Billed for 3178 miles last week and have been running pretty steadyall in all. Hope yall are doin as well or better ...Happy Trails!

The rumor about the Cascadias seems to have some merit. I'm in the Kville term getting an airleak fixed, they delivered 6 new Prostars this morning, and the last time I was at the Lincoln terminal I didn't notice any Freightliners, just rows of cornbinders. I've heard from multiple drivers that we cancelled our order with Freightliners due to spending almost as much time on the lift as on the road.

The Prostars have the battery packs for driver comfort...supposed to keep you cool or warm for your whole break...wonder how well they work? And I wonder how those batteries hold up to the cycling abuse they'll get and what one does for those longer periods of sitting?

ET,
Tried to send you a PM, but you must have chosen not to accept PM's?

Bad experience?

Anyhow, thanks for the great thread was the short of it, but some stuff shouldn't be public.

<10 minutes later, returns, blushing>

Er, nevermind, it would help if I spelled yer name right...
