Finally

Well, Crete gave me a call today and told me they finally have a trainer for me. I start orientation this Monday and then out with a trainer for 3wks. They say I'll be paid $600 a week and 42cpm when I get my own truck. I'm really excited to finally get back out on the road!!!

hello memcgoo, looks like your being patient may just pay off. just because you are asked to drive with a trainer is not such a bad thing, you can use it as a period of adjustment and get an idea how crete does things out here. when i came to crete i was to ride with a trainer for up to 6 weeks but after he seen that i had no problems driving he told me that while out with him he would teach me the money making aspects of driving for crete, and i happily said you got a deal, after 3 weeks i was released and in my own truck. its great to see they are at least starting you at a decent rate. even with my what crete termed my limited experience, i was still started at .41cpm which was very satisfying to me. well, good luck to you and welcome to crete.

Well, until you try Crete, you can come and tell us what you think. Until recently, Crete was a very good company to work for. We were happy with them. The pay is good, and we always had a load. Once in a while we'd have to wait a few hours for a load. If we got stuck in an area they don't have loads coming out of, then we may have to sit overnight and d/h somewhere. But at least they kept us moving!

Sorry, we didn't like Schneider! They had us sitting around more than Crete did. Also, we were sent to LA all the time. And barely was making money. Such a rip off.. Have nothing nice to say about Schneider so don't ask me about it. The only thing good about them was their training and that they have nicer OC's (Terminals).

As for equipment, Schneider was worse than Crete. We hardly ever found something wrong with Crete's equipment. It was up to date, maybe because the drivers get points for taking a trailer in for PM.

He has a freind that drove for Shaeffer for 8 years, and he left them about 2 years ago for something more local--he said that Crete says on the official that they are safety conscious, but when it comes right down to it, their equipment is not that well maintained--but that was just his opinion. Like I said--I cant see going with a trainer, unless you are say switching from van to flatbed or something like that. But making $1000 the week before driving a truck by myself and then going to work with somebody and busting my butt while I make $500 and the first seat driver is making all the money, that's not gonna happen. At least not with me, unless of course they treat us like a team and there is an even split--which I dont know, but I doubt it. Or you would be considered "teaming" and not "out with a trainer". If they are that untrustful of their drivers, then they are definitely not for me--of course that is also my opinion.

Ive finally joined the 62mph club, so no more passing JB and Yellow.
Remember! It saves the company 14 million dollars! Fine print. We drivers are taking a 14 million dollar paycut!

Congrats!

So, they're actually starting drivers out at 42cpm? It still says 39 on the website.

I wont be trying Crete ever. Crete does not have a very good reputation among the driving community. The drivers at Crete are kinda thought of as disrepectable jerks. You know the ones who you ride up behind while they are doing 50mph and try to pass them, then they start doing 70. I have never run into a Crete truck that was set lower than 70, so Im not sure where these guys are getting the 62 at. I had one blow by me last night on US 41 doing every bit of 80mph, and then get in front of me and literally SLAM on them! Needless to say, I got the hell away from him, plus this guy was all over the road.
I keep hearing Crete drivers talking about their 600,000 mile trucks, doest that company ever buy any new equipment?
I restate, if the company does not trust the drivers to do their work, then why should I trust them to pay me? By sending veteran drivers out with a trainer, you are telling them that they cannot be trusted, is that really the kind of company you want to work for? If you do. then have at it, but I (like I said) think that is a lack of trust in the driver. If you come to them with a clean record then they should let you do your job. At $600 a week, dont expect me to act like a team, and dont expect me to bust my butt for you, it aint happening. I dont need somebody telling me how to "make" money either--of course the trainer will say that, since he/she will be making a killing while you are driving all the miles for him, that is why they are "training" DUH!
