Thanks again for posting with such great detail and actual numbers; We need more of this kind of thing so badly.

Could you again explain the difference between avg. miles per week including hometime vs. excluding home time?

Please, by all means, keep this up. i am "shopping" around for carriers as i plan to return to OTR hopefully within 3 months.

everr can you pm or post the info about the split sleeper, i use it alot, though ive no clue if im doing it by the letter. i just cant get 8 hours of sleep in the truck. usually 4-5, then stop somewhere for the 2 and take a nap. if i sleep 5 hours. then sit for 5 hours, im an unmotivated pile of crap by the time my 10s up. and still need a nap.
Here is a link to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Crete will allow us to use the split sleeper berth provision, to a point that is. If we take an 8hr sleeper berth we can then drive per the regulations and take the required 2hr break at a later time.

My problem occurred when I ran my day exactly as shown on Day 1 of Example #4 from the FMCSA link above when I used a 2hr break early in my shift in combination with a later 8hr sleeper berth. Crete will not allow you to take a 2hr break followed my the 8hr break, only the reverse is allowed. I couldn't win the debate with the logging department and I now simply avoid using the provision in that manor.

Avg miles/week including hometime is my actual weekly average. Total miles driven divided by total days/weeks in the year to date.

Avg miles/week excluding hometime is my average miles per week when I am on the road working. Meaning, if I never went home this is how many miles I would be averaging.

The end result of this, my good running weeks are now over, I don't care if I get 1500 miles a week, and my idle time is 75%. I only have to make it until Thanksgiving. And I plan on bad mouthing this useless place until then.
Ah! that's better, I didn't like the other Snackbar, he was creeping me out.

I was surprised to read about your violations due to logging 15mins for drop/hooks. I don't do it very often, but if I'm in and out in 15mins that's how I log it and haven't been called on it (yet). As far as logging 30mins for a live load/unload, I have never done that. Did you actually get a violation for logging short on live loads. I've talked to a lot of guys that are like you and say that they never log more than 15mins for drop/hooks. Maybe they've decided to start enforcing their policy again.

ive done 30 minutes for live load/unload since i started, thats how i was told to log it.....

i stopped and got fuel in marietta today, inquired about an a service and getting my truck turned down, said both would be sometime around noon tomorrow, told him id try to get through ottawa.... i got the love note a few days ago telling me i had 10 days or else or something.....

since they gave us all a paycut they should give the fricking mechanics a buck an hour, its not like theyre not going to save a few million on fuel right?

ams has to have a rediculously high turnover rate. when they can get people to work there at all, i almost feel bad going to k.c. anymore

They've never said a word. Now I have been audited for the last 2 mos, and lost numerous points because they insist I falsify my log by putting a minimum of 30 minutes for the above, even if I don't take that much time.
(snip)

I pulled into the fuel island in Marietta the other day and sent in my "arrived at shipper" from there at 2:46pm. I fueled up the truck, dropped my empty trailer, hooked onto my loaded trailer, checked tires/lights, got the bills out of the box in the nose, and sent in my "loaded call" at 3:08pm. That was the end of my day. While I was drawing the corresponding lines in my logbook at the table in the smoking area there, someone told me I'd get a talking-to for logging only 30 minutes for fuel, drop, and hook.

I went in and talked with one of the fleet managers there to find out. He told me I needed to log 45 minutes for all that, then basically told me that as long as I log it as I did it I should be fine. I walked away thinking, "Okay, so which one? Log it as I do it, or log 45 minutes for what took me 22 minutes?"

I logged Line 4 from 2:45pm to 3:15pm. If I had finished my PTI and sent my loaded call 3 minutes earlier, I'd log it 2:45 to 3:00. I'm logging it as I do it, period. Federal law trumps company policy.

It is we who should thank you. It's folks like you who protect our rights to piss and whine, among other things.

Hi CAN... real quick so as not to hijack....

I plan to do 24. If I can pick up 8 (Senior Chief...E8 for those that are curious) I intend to do the math on retirement and decide if its right to stay to 26.

I am planning to enroll in the Trucking Course at Tidewater Comm. College and use Tuition Assistance. Starting in the Fall. I am on shore duty now so its doable. I saw my first Crete truck while heading home on I64 (Chesapeake, Va) the other day. Pretty sweet....

I am a Damage Controlman..... I see you were an AD...bad ### rate... I used to hang out in the jet shop when I was on CARL VINSON and watch them run those hotrod engines on the test stand.... needless to say for the ADC getting his and his crews basic and advanced DC taken care of was easy... LOL

Drive safe, my friend.
