That was the end of my day. While I was drawing the corresponding lines in my logbook at the table in the smoking area there, someone told me I'd get a talking-to for logging only 30 minutes for fuel, drop, and hook.

I went in and talked with one of the fleet managers there to find out. He told me I needed to log 45 minutes for all that, then basically told me that as long as I log it as I did it I should be fine. I walked away thinking, "Okay, so which one? Log it as I do it, or log 45 minutes for what took me 22 minutes?"

I logged Line 4 from 2:45pm to 3:15pm. If I had finished my PTI and sent my loaded call 3 minutes earlier, I'd log it 2:45 to 3:00. I'm logging it as I do it, period. Federal law trumps company policy.
Not company good-ole'-boy, but company policy can always be more restrictive than Federal Law. Same as with individual State Laws. The log video from crete, states that we should show a minimum of 30 minutes for unloaded, loaded, and drop & hook calls.

Yes, but Federal law states that falsification of log book entries is illegal. When I sign that log page, I am basically testifying under oath that each entry is true and correct. That means "no padding the time spent on a task just because the company likes it that way."

DC is a pretty cool rate. I was not in a jet shop I was in an E2C squadron. Actually did a cruise on the Vinson back in 2001. Then on the Nimitz later on. Good luck with your school. Trucking is not much different than the Navy except you dont have 5 people looking over your shoulder at everything you do. Or in your case a couple of people. Take care DCC.

I am planning to enroll in the Trucking Course at Tidewater Comm. College and use Tuition Assistance. Starting in the Fall. I am on shore duty now so its doable. I saw my first Crete truck while heading home on I64 (Chesapeake, Va) the other day. Pretty sweet....

I am a Damage Controlman..... I see you were an AD...bad ### rate... I used to hang out in the jet shop when I was on CARL VINSON and watch them run those hotrod engines on the test stand.... needless to say for the ADC getting his and his crews basic and advanced DC taken care of was easy... LOL

Drive safe, my friend.

I'm a retired OSC with a BS in Business Admin. and I drive a truck. Choose your rate choose your fate was a no s**ter. Should have been an FC.
Anyway, my advise is to do 30 and move to a low cost of living area like the south so you don't have to work again. I retired at 24 and turned down Senior so that I could retire. BAD MOVE!!! Don't drive unless you are single with no kids. You'll enjoy it more if that is the case. Once my wife finishes her nursing degree, I'm out of this business and I'm hitting the golf course.

CANGST,

I understand about the five people part...nothing like the Navy to throw people at the problem. The Chief belongs on the deckplates.... so does the bootcamp Ensign as long as I am there to snatch him up by his collar if he starts to try and run my crew (bunch o' roudy DC men..LOL). He can watch, learn, and listen.....

Hey Vols...thanks for the feedback, Brother. No kids...just the wife and I. Good luck on the golf course....thats just something I could never master....LOL...

Ever must be busy..... been a few days since his last post....

Red,

Why would a company want someone to "pad" there logbook. Is there a general perception that it takes "X" amout of time to complete a specific task...like hooking a trailor, ect.

If its done faster than what the company likes is that considered unsafe?

Just asking. I guess I could be considered that "Boot camp Ensign" I was just talking about... LOL

Padded logs

Padding is not so much for the company as it is for DOT. If they see that it always takes you 15 minutes(the shortest time you can log) every time that you load or unload, it raises flags. They will then look over your log with a fine tooth comb.
I would take a bootcamp airman over a bootcamp ensign any day. Luckily I was on the aviation side and the only ensigns we got were LDO's. The brown shoe officers are generally a lot easier to deal with. They rely on you to keep them flying. I have downed a few aircraft because a cocky LTJG Pilot had to be put in his place. Aviation CPO's run differently also. While I was a workcenter sup. I would get pissed if my LCPO was micromanaging. I took my Chief aside and told him if he had questions or concerns to come to me not my guys. He respected me for that and so did my men.

What do I need to do to get you to re-enlist? I agree, its a team effort. I used to get on my guys if they came to see me without first seeing there WCS and the LPO. When I was a young sailor (1989), it never even crossed my mind to go straight to the Chief, the First Class would of had my *ss.

When I place someone in a leadership position I "Trust but Verify". Remember those "couple of people" you said I had to worry about looking over my shoulder? Those would typically be the Department Head, maybe the XO, ect. I am gonna see what type of job was/is being done so that I can effectively run interference (read: the COC leaving you and I alone) so that you can get your job done. My problem is I still like to turn wrenches. You would often times find me rebuilding a valve or pump right next to my youngest sailor. The upside is I can teach the "Playstation Generation" a bit about tools and there uses....valve and pump rebuilding.... you know...train my relief.....the downside is I get to listen to the LPO/WCS..."Chief...What are you doing?!? Give me that wrench...thats not your job anymore...! LOL....

So....raise your right hand and repeat after me...... dont worry...we can find that Boot Camp Ensign to sign the paperwork and make it all legal... LOL...

And thanks for the feedback on the log book. I understand now.
