Just none of it makes sense
My take on this is that Crete is one of the "BIG" companies. One of the smaller big ones maybe, but once a company reaches a certain size the personal interaction is an early victim.

I knew Crete was one of the big boys and never expected more than I should from them.

It is simply the way the world works and I know I have to addapte to that world because that world doesn't give a damn about me. So I take it upon myself to take care of me.

Now back to the thread ... I want to go to Crete personally (I'm waiting on safety to approve my application) because they are one of the smaller "big" companies. I've heard to many good things that outweight the bad things about Crete, and I'd rather go there myself and deal with whatever find as opposed to going with one of the companies that are universally known as horrible to everyone.

Even though I don't have a wealth of experience in this industry, I do know that if you are not happy with your present job as you seem to be, you need to move on and get another one. Or work on fixing the problems instead of just staying and complaining.

I'll make that judgment when the day comes) I will be gone long before then. I won't be on this board griping about not get miles anymore. But then again, maybe by then I'll be ready for that cozy little regional gig and more home time. I am just as proactive in career choices as I am in my driving. IF a company treats me well, I work hard for them. If they let me down I will react accordingly. If you are so unhappy you are as free as anyone to move on. Don't sit around and complain, do something about it.

A new truck, you got me on that one too. It was brand spanking new with just over 387,000 miles on it. I'm now sitting at 595,676 miles. Who cares if its a new truck. They are all the same bare bone models. It's not like we have top of the line equipment around here. Everyone knows that. I've also stated on this board that I fully well expect to get a used truck when this one is taken out of service because Crete is out of new trucks at this time. Unless they stick me in one of those trader blue models.

As far as what Crete/Shaffer trucks are pulling who's freight. Again, who cares. It's all the same company. I've pulled refers and I've seen actual Shafer drivers pulling dry. That just means they were MT before me. That's just the way the company works. I knew that before I started working here and am not about to start complaining about it after the facts where presented to me.

One last point. If in fact the new drivers on the lower end of the pay scale (like me) get all the miles, how is it a bad thing to recommend the company to other drivers. Wouldn't it be a prime situation for them. Especially new drivers that are looking at 25-30 cpm at other companies. You seem to want to ward off any new comers. Your logic is anything but.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a 2000 mile run over to Kansas City to get to. Even if I had to sit for 2 days to get the dumb load. I had a funny feeling I was going to have a problem after unloading in mid-state Washington. My first ever layover in almost 1 1/2 years. Hope it's not a sign of the times.

Drive safe all,

You might be right. He might have been speaking to Blutarsky. Flounder definately threw up on the desk. What a classic movie!

CRETE

Ive spent time with Swift, Us Xpress, Knight and a short time with Interstate Dist. , I must say Crete (so far) is above those others in my view over all, even though I would go back to Knight if I didnt have my dog riding along with me. Crete pays more (Practical miles too), very driver friendly. Heck, if your truck breaks down they put you in a hotel PLUS pay you for down time! Maybe I'm still in the Honeymoon phase, but I see alot of positives over here at Crete. DRIVE SAFE

When you're at the top of the hill you are about to go for a wild fast ride, but as time goes along, you get slower, and slower, and slower. The reason for this??? Money. You make more money for the company the I do. They don't make more on a load because the driver is paid more. So, if they can pay you $50 less on a 1000 mi. run, guess who gets it. I didn't believe this when I was new, but as time went along, my miles get shorter and shorter. And the wait for loads gets longer. It's the Ostergard way. I'll bet you got a new truck when you hired on too, right! My truck was almost 600k, well past trade time, because they gave all the new trucks to the new hires, and didn't have any when it came time to trade existing drivers. So I ended up getting into a Shaffer blue instead of a Crete red truck. Makes no real difference to me though, but most drivers passing you on the road think Shaffer is pulling a dry load in a Crete trailer, and give you static about it. As if I were a Shaffer driver stealing their freight. It's slow right now for most of us only slower than normal. We'll see how things are in a few months when the slow season is over.
We are only getting one side of this story, so I take it with a grain of salt.

I've talked to many of our drives here at Crete, and without fail, the ones who complain about low miles always have bad attitudes. Not derived from low miles, but a bad attitude is their everyday way of life. Will there be bad weeks? Duh? That's like asking if the sky is blue. Overall, the VAST MAJORITY of Crete drivers are happy with the miles they are getting. Including the old timers.

As for the blue truck vs. red truck issue. IT's not. Most of us now know that Shaffer trucks pulling Crete vans are in fact Crete drivers. While I'll agree the reasoning is a little strange, it is still their company. Crete drivers pulling Shaffer reefers is either it's a dedicated fleet or the shipper loaded it with Crete freight. Once in awhile it will be a Shaffer load. However, I agree with a previous post. As long as I don't have to sit and wait, it makes no difference the color of the trailer. If the reefer is running, use earplugs. I do this most every night anyways. Truckstop noise can be a real bother.

Evertruckerr,

Although I'm a flatbedder, I love reading your updates. It's very apparent what your pattern is. Accept loads, dont argue, drive legal, get there without frequent coffee and video game stops. Seems to work well for you.

Even though flatbed freight sucks right now, I'll be going to Arrow in a week or two after I move to North Cackalacky. I'm not very experienced, having left TMC after a month (home stuff, even though my trainer was a filthy caveman), and running for a local startup in SoCal who sent me out to the midwest and TX regularly (and then decided that after almost 11000 miles they didnt need to pay me for those loads - CA Dept of Labor hearing on the 19th), but Arrow took me on with no questions.

I'm going to apply your practice to running with them and even though I'm going to be running their Southwest Regional for 26% of load which is supposed to get me home every 7 days for two off, I'll stay out if I need to.

Thanks for the posts!

But I did promise to post my last pay stub to support my claims so here it is:

The final numbers are in and it looks like my initial estimate of my YTD pay was a little high. So here are the actual numbers and a the copy of my final pay check that I promised earlier in this thread:

My YTD pay on my final pay check of 12/27/07 for miles run through 12/21/07 was $60,857.19

Final Pay 2007 .................................................. ................$60,857.19
Less: First paycheck 2007 for last week of 2006........................- 575.23
Add: First paycheck 2008 for last week of 2007
including 1week pd/vac # $1154...........................................+ 1743.57
-------------

Gross pay for 2007 .................................................. ..........$62,025.53

Here is a copy of final paycheck of 2007, you'll have to take my word on the adjustments.

Truckers

Well, I got my pre-hire today for Crete, it isn't the regional I wanted but that's cool. I can just hope my EOY 2008 statement is a nice as that one.
