Here is what the law states

This page updated August 12, 2008.
Starting January 1, 2008, sleeper berth vehicles will no longer be allowed to idle during periods of sleep and rest. Therefore, the California Air Resources Board (ARB) has developed this webpage to provide drivers with information regarding various idle reduction technologies that are currently available.

OVERVIEW
Pursuant to state [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. , operators of diesel-fueled trucks, with a gross vehicle weight rating greater than 10,000 pounds, shall not idle for more than 5 minutes when stopped within California's borders. Currently, there is an exemption for sleeper berth trucks, which allows them to idle during periods of sleep and rest. However, starting JANUARY 1, 2008, this will change; all sleeper berth trucks, regardless of model year, will also be required to shutdown their engines after 5 minutes.
As the 2008 regulatory deadline draws near, it will be necessary for many sleeper truck operators to select idle reduction equipment suitable for their cab comfort needs. To assist operators who may not be familiar with idle reduction technologies, ARB has developed this webpage to provide general information regarding various technologies that are currently available.
All idle reduction alternatives presented here require some amount of out-of-pocket expense. However, it is expected that operators will recover their costs over time through fuel and maintenance savings. ARB estimates that cost recovery times will range between 8 months and 3 years, but actual recovery times will depend solely on the equipment selected and the amount of time spent at idle.
In the spirit of air pollution prevention, ARB encourages the use of zero- and low-emissions technologies such as battery-powered systems, thermal energy storage systems, and truck-stop electrification systems. Selecting certain zero-emissions technologies may qualify you for financial incentives through

Now, I'm off to see what I can do about catching up on an update or two.

OH YEAH, I'm sitting in California with my brand new APU ready to thumb my nose at the no idling laws and its a beautiful 75 degree day with a steady breeze. California won't even give me the satisfaction. Hate this state.
Who'd you have to bribe to get an apu???? Which one did you get TK or Carrier? (I'm hoping for Carrier because the TK's are only suppose to have a 1000 watt inverter, and the Carriers have a 4k gen.) I'm jealous.

Did anyone hear the XM radio spot that Copycat Tonny did???? Amazing when other ATA(anti trucker association) CEO's (Schneider, JB Etc.) do promos, Tonny couldn't wait to chime in with his own... driver friendly recruiting b.s. I wonder how many takes they had to do because he kept cracking up and laughing.

He must be on the 'outs' with the family again. Seems as though that's the only time he tries to make nice with us peeons.

Yes, Crete showed me the door that I unfortunately opened for myself. Rest assured; if things ever go sour for me at my current company, I will certainly do my best to rejoin the Crete family. Take care!

Thanks, Longbed. I am debating on several companies though....You see, my 7 year old son is in Greensboro, so I need to be there too. I like Crete and would love to run SE Regional for them, but you have to live close to the GA/FL line (I forget the city names), or at least that is what they told me.

I have been looking at KLLM, NFI, and a few local companies in and around Greensboro (Best Cartage, Swing Transport). They guarantee weekly home time, and only run the SE region.

It's all still up in the air though. My wife has fantastic insurance but will be going back to school. The cut in hours will require her to lose the insurance. I haul mail, which pays great, but the benefits (or lack thereof) suck. The only good benefits in mail is when you work directly for the USPS. I work for a contractor.

And since Crete is so terrible to your pansy ### then you can find a much better company. Good riddance.

Man, you need to chill out, this forum is to let truckers vent in any way they want. If you don't like it, don't read it. Besides, he was not being negative. Have you heard of sacassism? I want to hear all sides of the story when it comes to a trucking company, good and bad. Not all company's are perfect and there are some drivers that do the bad end of the deal. It is always good to hear the worst complaints along with the good ones. It gives you the bigger over all picture of a company. SO relax and don't take it so personal. If you like your company then great, try being helpful instead of rude and if you have anything that will be of help then share. But don't tell someone to leave their company just because they are complaining some abou it.

First off..I was venting and I am a trucker..and thats how I wanted to do it. Second..if you dont like it, dont read it.

I am sorry if you find my post unhelpful...maybe this will help.

Man Crete blows..they have had me sitting here for 2 hours waiting to go home. My truck has bald tires..I told the mechanics but they said I had to run them till they went flat. Our company President jumped on the band wagon and did a radio commercial..LOL # him! What an idiot. Cant believe the dispatchers lie to me all the time. Crete sucks.

Hope you are satisfied..

If reading a post from a driver, that becomes disgusted by another driver complaining on a regular basis, bothers you..then that lets me know..we are not the same kind of driver.

WOW… that sure is the truth! This is the type of driver I see on the road every day, you know, the one that has a really bad attitude trying to push his (or her) way through traffic then blocking the fuel isles while taking a lunch break.

This is exactly the type of attitude I am speaking about in my previous post. It’s one thing to have an opinion due to your experience as to the way one has been treated by a company, and it’s another to express a bad attitude just based on someone else’s point of view!

I’m not saying that this character would be one of those rude drivers out on the road but… the temperament sure does match!!!

Amen...Preach on brother. I don't drive for Crete but I like the honesty.

I almost went with Crete until I saw that the Knoxville terminal was a tractor shop. Then they told me I HAD to buy THEIR locks. That was it. I walked out and went with Transport America and I'm glad I did.

That said, there has to be a way to vent. Look at our job. We are gone ALL the time. You work for people that probably have never seen the inside of a truck, but they want you to perform miracles with a load. Get it to point B by this time but don't violate HOS.

You guys are a good bunch. I like talking to Crete drivers out here.

Preach on...
