Glad to hear you are satisfied at Swift.I did a short stint there and Swift is not for me.As far as terminals are concerned,Swift really screwed up the Memphis terminal. When that was the old MS Carriers terminal it was truly a nice place to be.I could not believe how bad Swift had screwed it up.Same way in Columbus,Laredo, and every other terminal I was at.And yeah,I did a few years with MS Carriers,as a copmpany driver and also an O/O.

Seems like swift has it's ups and downs, but from what I have read on these forums, most if not all will have their ups and downs. I would love to work for Crete, but have to get the experience in. I do know you want to find the company for you as soon as you can, because time with a company says a lot and helps with pay.

For the person looking at Maverick, I do not remember the website, but someone did a break down of a year with their specialized division. He got fewer miles overall then the regular Maverick division. So based off of what I had seen, if I went with Maverick I would stay away from specialized. Do some research though, don't just take my word for it.

Glad to find some positive things about swift, and over time the ones that are causing problems giving it a bad name are the ones that will be looking for another job down the road because eventually they will be without one and possibly without a CDL.

I am seriously considering Swift for the full training and at least a year of work, and thus far the only meaningful complaint against them is some of their drivers, not the company.

With drivers all over the road, and most of them well labeled, a single bad driver in a Swift truck can be memorable. I guess all I can do, if I choose them--and they me--is to be a better driver than some of us have seen in Swift trucks in recent years.

This is my take too. I'm a bit over a week into their training and it's great so far. The staff are some real characters too. If you do go, you'll know the ones I mean.

It sounds like you are at TMC in South Carolina. Is that right? Are they paying for your training? Could you provide a recruiters contact information, or a referral? I can't accept Private Messages on this board yet, but I would be willing to get you a referral if TMC offers any incentive for you.

Their attitude towards the people sometimes I get the impression that they aren't people oriented. Their lunches (at the S. Carolina location) are complete garbage. I don't expect gourmet, but they could ASK you (and the rest of the class for that matter) for a diet preference and try to accommodate. It's free, but trying to ask for a salad or something different they looked at me like it was a strange question. I asked 2 different instructors and now I'm the salad king. Anyway, between that and a bad run-in I had with one of the instructors, I wasn't too impressed about the morale. But I figured when we get our own trucks, it'll be worth it.
I liked TMC. Dont worry about the instructors. Maybe they do that to weed out those who cant handle a little BS every now and again (which you'll SURELY get at shippers and consignees). And forget about getting diet preferences for your free lunch at orientation. You could always buy your own and forego the free lunch they give you. Thats what I did in DM when they served Mexican food. I cant stand that ####, so I bought a huge greaseburger to clog my arteries with instead.

I wanted to drive for Maverick. How did you like them as a company? What about their training/orientation? The recruiter seemed more professional than many of the other corporations and they check you out fully BEFORE they set you up with an orientation date. This is part of the reason they do NOT do prehires.
I've never worked for Maverick.

I'm a swift flat bedder and within my first year I've been elevated to 42 cents per mile (on a dedicated account) and I pull 2500-3000 miles a week and I'm home every weekend. I don't know how over the road is currently but with the Laredo runs and Chassis runs, I'd say it's good too. Let me just say I've never sat around for a load when I have been available for dispatch and now that I'm dedicated I can't keep up half the time. When I start my week I usually have six loads on me Monday morning, to pick up one right after another. All 400-450 mile runs.

The miles are there if you are a runner.

Sweet. I'm going to Arrow in a couple weeks, but Swift Flat is something to keep in my back pocket if I get desperate.
