hey havent been on this site for awhile, I was with Boyd up until about two weeks ago, I landed a pretty good job close to home, I liked driving for them but there is nothing better then being with your family. when i was driving for them i got home every week end, but of course you can stay out as long as you want. I was running pretty hard there at the end, closer to 3000 miles or so. I would not get home until saturday and then leave out on sunday. At first if i got home on sat i wouldnt have to leave until mon. lets hope you get gwen for your dispatcher, shes really good to her drivers as long as you can do your job. heres the good thing about boyd, after you get loaded you send them a message confirming your delivery time. If you use gps or if you can figure out how long it will take using your atlas or whatever, to get to consignee just make sure you have enough time. If not just send a mess 14 and tell them when you can make it and then you will not be counted late. I use a good gps, just put in the address and i know if i can make my apointment time or not. Dont forget to add any breaks sleep, fuel or cargo checks you may have to do. There was only one time that i had to change a appointment time, and that was because the shipper was really backed up and i was there forever, but they do a really good job planning, i was really impressed. being from ohio like me,you will run mostly between new york, pensv, down as far as goergia. I got alot of great loads out of charlotte pipe, you just pick up preloaded trailer, throw your straps and off you go, no tarps. I have asked to stay out a couple of weeks before, and they sent me to texas, louisiana, arkansa, oklahoma ,alabama, and as far north as min. I dont think they do west coast but i could be wrong. some times you will unload and load every day, and other times you will deliver every other day. they will be easy on you at first. but you have to try and get a system for securing your load and tarping, the faster you get done the sooner you will be back on the road. I watched and talked to other drivers to see how they chain and how many straps they use. I always like to be on the safe side, and throw that extra chain or strap, just try to do it quickly. If the old lady gets on my nerves to much, i will go back out with boyd.

Coming to Boyd (hopefully)

Hey Sleepy,

I've put in my app. with Boyd and they seem like an awesome company. I thought that even before you said those nice words about them and it was great to hear you back up what I already thought. Just for planning purposes (for household budget) how much were you bringing home a week?
I've been kinda offered a position with a more local company to me, but I googled them and it brought me to a Myspace page for a kid who drives for them and he said on it that he only brought home less than 30 a year. I was shocked. They mostly haul steel coils in covered wagons and everyone was impressed when I told them I got on with this locally-based company (whose name I will not mention) but I mean how good can they be for less than 30 a year? Not to mention I don't even know what their benefits are like.
Just wondering, keep in touch, and have fun in the blizzard when you start heading home. The back end slid out on me twice on Rt. 30 today and the weather guy said "I promise you folks, the worst is yet to come."
