Starting with Transport America, 3 day orientation report

I have just left SNI after 9 months, and am going to start at TA. Since most of the posts about it are from new driver orientation, I figured that I would give experienced drivers the low-down on the 3 day orientation. I will be starting on 03/17 so once I get settled in I will post an update. You all stay safe out there!

Just not happy there, sometimes they only run me 70 miles in a day, or make me sit for 2 days waiting on a load, I had to fight with them every time I wanted to go home, even though it was planned 4 wks in advance. I haven't been happy there for months now, so I stuck it out to see if it would get better and it didn't, so I left.

TA seemed like one of the better choices available to us Chicago drivers, definitely will be watching this thread.

Hotel

Well I arrived at the hotel last night, the Mariann Travel Inn. It is a fairly decent hotel, it is clean. Went to the restauraunt attached to the hotel, and to be honest with you I wasn't very impressed. The food was cold and really not that good, but there are other choices around here. I will be going to the training center shortly, so when I get back later I will give you my opinion on it. The one thing I really liked is that you can pay $20 and get your own room for the 3 days, after sleeping in the truck by yourself, you may not want a roomie if you switch jobs. Well I'll keep you guys posted. Stay safe out there!

1st day

On the first day here we spent 3/4 of the day filling out paperwork! The day started with some paperwork an ]d then a physical which included a stress test and drug test. More paperwork. A short drive on the sim they have here, a simulated 6 mile drive to see how you are at avoiding things they throw at you. More paperwork. A road test to make sure that I can drive, pretty short run around town and then backing into the spot we pulled out of and we were done. Oh and before I forget, MORE PAPERWORK. Some power point stuff, a sexual harrassment movie. The day was almost 11 hrs long. Lunch was catered and really wasn't half bad. Tomorrow we will be doing all classroom stuff so it will probably be a long day, but soon I'll be back on the road and this will all fade into the past. I'll let you know what we do tomorrow, right now I'm hitting the sack. Stay safe out there!

I would like to know, did you see any female drivers there? What was the stress test about, lifting weights? I'm a female and intend to send them an application. Are you going to run only southeast? Do you intend to run solo? I would like to team up for the first three months but don't have a team mate and they don't set up teams. Keep us updated, please. All the best to you.
